Job summary

Sodexo Ltd. at Merville Barracks, Colchester, CO2 7UT, is seeking a Shift Leader to lead front-of-house teams in the bar and food outlets. You will engage with Armed Forces personnel daily and drive smooth operations with support for growth and development.

Key duties include supervising tasks, maintaining hygiene, coordinating with chefs, and upholding health and safety standards in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar role in catering/hospitality is required.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to motivate and lead a team in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead front-of-house operations and ensure tasks are completed to a high standard.
• Oversee cleanliness and hygiene in front-of-house areas.
• Coordinate with catering management and chefs for smooth operations.
• Promote health and safety practices and report hazards.
• Conduct safety walks to identify risks.
• Run weekly team huddles and provide feedback to the team.

What you’ll do:

• Ensure all tasks and responsibilities are completed on time and to a high standard, while motivating your team to do the same.
• Oversee cleanliness and hygiene standards in all front-of-house areas.
• Collaborate with catering management and chefs to maintain smooth communication and team alignment.
• Promote and enforce health and safety practices—be proactive about spotting and reporting potential hazards to keep everyone safe.
• Conduct regular safety walks to identify and address any risks.
• Conduct weekly team huddles with the team.
• Provide ongoing feedback and support to your team, ensuring they feel confident and valued in their roles.

What you bring:

• Experience in a similar role, with knowledge of catering operations and some supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Experience in hospitality (hotel, bar, or restaurant) is a plus.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to motivate and lead a team effectively.
• Comfort with working at a fast pace and adapting to changing situations.
• A collaborative mindset and the ability to communicate well with senior management.
