Job summary

Ryerson is seeking a Shift Area Lead to oversee the warehouse team, support the second shift Supervisor, and drive production and safety goals. The role requires operating a variety of material handling equipment and leading pre-shift safety huddles.

Candidates should have 3–5 years of experience, strong leadership, and the ability to learn SAP quickly. Excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability in a dynamic service center environment are essential.

Qualifications

• Successful pass of a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving.
• 3–5 years of warehouse or materials handling experience.
• Experience operating equipment and recognizing materials in the service center.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities and desire to advance within the organization.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-changing environment.
• Flexible, dependable, solutions-oriented and willing to learn SAP.
• Physical ability to pass standard health and mobility requirements.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the warehouse team and assist the second shift Supervisor with production and department goals.
• Operate motorized material handling equipment such as overhead crane, side loader, and forklift.
• Lead pre-shift safety and production huddles with the team.
• Coach, mentor, and develop staff; ensure training is completed.
• Coordinate repairs or reassign personnel during machinery breakdowns.
• Fill in where needed when short-handed and during high-demand periods.
• Support management absences and perform other duties as assigned.
