Job summary

Midwestern University is seeking a Primary Care Veterinary Technician for Shelter & Community Medicine in Glendale, AZ. The role supports animal care across mobile and pop-up clinics, with progression through Levels I–III based on competency and leadership.

Flexible weekday hours and some weekends may be required. The position emphasizes teaching, diagnostic support, anesthesia, and client communication within a busy university shelter environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CVT preferred; years of experience vary by level.
• Level I–III progression based on competency and teaching abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist students and veterinarians with physical exams, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures during outpatient appointments.
• Assist in setting up surgical and treatment areas for procedures and patient care.
• Administer medications and help students with vaccinations and treatments as needed.
• Perform surgical preparation of patients for procedures.
• Assist with surgical procedures as needed.
• Maintain inventory and cleanliness of three facilities at one location.

Education

High school diploma or GED

CVT preferred

1-2 years of clinical experience in high-volume spay/neuter or animal shelter setting

2-4 years of progressive clinical experience in high-volume spay/neuter or animal shelter setting

5+ years of progressive clinical experience in high-volume spay/neuter or animal shelter setting
