Job summary

HumanePro in Aurora, Colorado is seeking a Veterinary Technician to join our shelter medical team. You will perform animal evaluations, administer vaccines and medications, manage records, and support surgeries and anesthesia under the direction of a veterinarian.

Salary is commensurate with experience. This is a full-time, on-site position with a broad scope of responsibilities across shelter, foster, and field health support.

Qualifications

• Licensed Veterinary Technician or eligibility to sit the Veterinary Technician License exam.
• Experience with animal health evaluations, medicines, vaccinations, and record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Performs animal evaluations including age, gender, health, and spay/neuter status.
• Notifies DVM of signs of injury or illness promptly.
• Documents medical evaluations and findings in the computer system.
• Fills prescriptions for shelter and foster animals and records medications.
• Administers medications, vaccines and microchips per Veterinarian instruction.
• Educates patrons about medical conditions and treatments.
• Communicates with foster parents about health and treatment of foster animals.
• Administers anesthesia and monitors animals post-operatively.
• Records surgical details in the patient medical record.
• Transfers animals to treatment areas and maintains kennels.
• Cleans and sterilizes surgical equipment; maintains medical supplies and equipment within budget.
• Performs euthanasia and provides training to staff; adheres to SOPs and legal requirements.
• Preforms radiographs and supports medical issues for shelter, field and foster animals.
• Supervises volunteers and Veterinary Technician students.
