Job summary

The Veterinarian role at the ASPCA's Cruelty Recovery Center (CRC) in Columbus, OH, delivers high-quality medical care to animals rescued in cruelty cases and disasters. You will work with shelter medicine professionals to ensure timely treatment decisions and participate in evidence collection for forensic cases as needed.

Qualifications

• Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from an accredited college.
• Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Ohio or eligible for licensure; must obtain license within 30 days of hire.
• Clinical experience as a veterinarian working primarily or exclusively with dogs and cats.
• Fear Free Shelters certification or completion within 60 days of employment (preferred).
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for 8+ hours; willingness to work varied hours including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Provide timely, high-quality veterinary care to dogs, cats, and other species per ASPCA protocols and shelter medicine principles at CRC and temporary shelters.
• Monitor health and welfare of the shelter population; identify disease outbreaks and implement mitigation measures; manage quarantine/isolation spaces.
• Collaborate with partner hospitals for advanced workups and ensure exams at admission with ongoing care across on-site and off-site locations.
• Complete veterinary inspection certificates as needed for transfers or releases; perform sterilization surgeries, dental extractions, and other routine procedures.
• Document medical findings thoroughly; maintain records; produce reports and communicate animal status to relevant stakeholders.
