Job summary

Arizona Animal Welfare League is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our fast-paced shelter and clinical team. You will assist veterinarians with surgeries, in-patient and out-patient care, and medical record maintenance.

Role involves high-volume spay/neuter, anesthesia monitoring, radiographs, and cross-training at the Community Vet Clinic. Requires 1+ year experience and strong communication in a team environment.

Qualifications

• At least one year of veterinary technician experience.
• Surgical experience required.
• Must be skilled in IV catheter placement, anesthesia induction and intubation, monitoring anesthesia, blood draws, urinalysis, radiographs, and assisting in surgery and dental cleanings.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• AZ veterinary technician certification strongly preferred.
• Ability to speak Spanish.
• Computer literacy required with general office equipment experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with surgical procedures, including high volume spay/neuter, prepare animals for surgery, including TPRs.
• Pre-medicate and induce patients, including intubation.
• Perform dental scaling and polishing.
• Perform anatomical and dental radiographs.
• Provide critical care for patients if needed.
• Assist doctor on staff with case management, including diagnostics, restraint, and case history.
• Surgical pack preparation.
• Follow infirmary SOPs and standing orders.
• Administer medications (IV, SQ, IM, PO) and vaccinations.
• Perform laboratory procedures including fecals, skin scrapes, and using equipment.
• Calculate drug doses and fill medications.
• Disinfect kennels, treatment areas and equipment.
• Handle and restrain animals of various temperaments.
• Recognize animal behavior cues.
• Maintain accurate medical records and vaccination logs.
• Coordinate across departments to resolve conflicts with clients and foster families.
• Periodically sit at a computer and stand/walk for long periods.
