Job summary

Bertha’s Place is a 62-unit non-congregate shelter for people experiencing homelessness. The role supports guests, coordinates services, and ensures a safe, welcoming environment around the clock.

The Shelter Staff position involves supervision, incident reporting, and collaboration with volunteers and community partners to provide meals and resources. A high school diploma and ability to obtain a Food Handler’s card are required.

Qualifications

• Must have good verbal and written communication abilities.
• Experience working with diverse populations is a plus.
• Must be able to pass required background checks.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a safe, welcoming, supportive environment for shelter guests and staff.
• Monitor front door traffic and surrounding area to ensure only residents or authorized personnel enter.
• Develop supportive relationships with guests using motivational interviewing.
• Respond to guests in crisis, in disruptive states, or medical emergencies.
• Provide behavioral management for a diverse population including those with mental health or chemical dependency issues.
• Write timely incident or ban reports when incidents occur.
• Provide services, resources, and information to guests and coordinate meals with volunteers and partners.
• Help maintain health and safety of the facility and monitor client rooms.
