Job summary

Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc. (CPLC) seeks a Shelter Driver to provide safe, reliable transportation for shelter residents. You will operate the shelter shuttle, transport residents to medical appointments, and pick up prescriptions while assisting with daily shelter operations and administrative tasks.

You’ll work with a diverse team to ensure a dignified, respectful environment and help residents access essential services during challenging times.

Qualifications

• Valid Driver’s License is required.
• City Operators Permit required.
• High School Diploma or GED and two years of general office, customer service, and driving experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, reliable transportation for shelter residents.
• Operate the shelter shuttle and transport residents to medical appointments and prescriptions.
• Coordinate transportation during shelter suspension periods and other needs.
• Assist with daily shelter operations, administrative tasks, and resident supervision.

As a Shelter Driver, you’ll help residents access essential medical appointments, pick up prescriptions, and get the transportation support they need. You’ll also lend a hand with daily shelter operations, making you an important part of a team dedicated to serving individuals experiencing homelessness.

Founded by student and community activists in 1967 and incorporated as a nonprofit in 1969, CPLC is committed to empowering individuals through health and human services, housing, education, and economic development.

HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT IN THIS ROLE?

You will provide safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for shelter residents, including those who are medically fragile or require assistance accessing essential services. You will operate the shelter shuttle, transport residents to medical appointments, pick up prescriptions, and coordinate transportation related to shelter suspension periods.

Beyond driving, you will support daily shelter operations by assisting with administrative tasks, resident supervision, and other duties as needed. Your reliability, attention to safety, and willingness to help will contribute to a safe and supportive shelter environment.

WHO YOU ARE?

You are dependable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. You understand the importance of treating residents with dignity, patience, and respect, particularly those experiencing homelessness or facing medical challenges.

You remain calm under pressure, follow established procedures, and communicate effectively with residents, medical personnel, and shelter management. You take pride in maintaining a safe vehicle, keeping accurate records, and stepping in where needed to help the team succeed.

Minimum Qualifications And Competencies

Education /Background:

• Valid Driver’s License
• Obtain City Operators Permit
• High School Diploma or GED and two (2) progressive years of experience in general office procedures and customer service and driving
