Job summary

Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc. in Texas seeks an LPN/LVN/Medical Coordinator to provide direct nursing care to youth and coordinate medical services.

You will assess health needs, administer medications, educate youth on health, and schedule appointments while adhering to ORR and licensing standards.

Qualifications

  • Active LPN/LVN license in good standing or BSN with accredited program.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in hospital, clinic, or healthcare setting.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • CPR and First Aid or BLS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to youth in our care.
  • Coordinate medical services and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Assess, facilitate, and monitor medical needs.
  • Manage medication administration and liaise with providers.
  • Perform admissions assessments including vital signs and screenings.
  • Educate youths on health, disease prevention, and treatment plans; schedule appointments.

(CPLC) is a non‑profit organization and one of the largest Hispanic Community Development Corporations in the United States. The organization began with a group of student and community activists in 1967, and was incorporated and received non‑profit status in 1969. CPLC is committed to empowering individuals through health & human services, housing, education, and economic development.

HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT IN THIS ROLE?

You will provide direct nursing care, coordinate medical services, and ensure compliance with all health‑related regulations and standards. You will assess, facilitate, and monitor the medical needs of youth, manage medication administration, and collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.

You will perform nursing assessments, including vital signs, height, weight, and health screenings upon admission and as needed. You will respond promptly to medical complaints, urgent care needs, and emergencies while following established nursing protocols.

You will initiate routine lab tests, ensure required medical assessments are completed, and educate and counsel youth regarding their health status, disease prevention, and treatment plans. You will schedule and track medical, dental, and specialty appointments in compliance with required timelines.

You are a compassionate, dependable, and knowledgeable nursing professional who can remain calm under pressure and provide quality care in a fast‑paced environment. You are organized, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working independently while collaborating with youth, staff, medical providers, and other members of the care team.

In addition, ideally you are someone who demonstrates strong clinical judgment and nursing skills, communicates effectively in both English and Spanish, and can manage emergencies calmly and effectively. You understand the importance of confidentiality, accurate documentation, and compliance with licensing and ORR requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Education/Background

  • Must meet one of the following education and licensure requirements:
    • Current state licensed practical or vocational nurse (LPN/LVN) license in good standing with completion of a state‑approved practical nursing program; OR
    • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) with completion of an accredited nursing program.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a hospital, clinic, or a health care setting required.
  • This position requires driving on behalf of the company. Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license, meet the company’s motor vehicle record (MVR) standards, meets company’s insurance eligibility, and comply with all state and federal driving requirements. Ongoing employment is contingent upon maintaining an acceptable driving record.
  • CPR and First Aid or BLS certification preferred.
