Job summary

Our Saviour’s Community Services (OSCS) is seeking a part-time Cook for the Shelter program in Minneapolis. The cook will plan and provide nutritious meals for shelter residents, coordinating the meal calendar with the Volunteer Coordinator and Shelter Manager.

The role collaborates with the Housing Team and program staff. Responsibilities include planning, preparing, and serving meals, maintaining food safety, managing inventory and orders, and coordinating donated items with volunteers.

Qualifications

• Basic cooking and food preparation skills.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive.
• Ability to follow recipes and portion meals.
• Good organizational skills for tracking inventory.
• Team-oriented with strong communication skills.
• Willingness to work with volunteers and guests of diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Strong attention to detail and time management.
• Computer skills: able to use Google/ MS suite and email systems.
• Willingness to learn about homelessness and factors impacting participants.

Responsibilities

• Plan weekly meal menus with input from staff and volunteers.
• Prepare and cook meals according to scheduled service times.
• Ensure meals meet basic nutrition and dietary requirements.
• Safely store, label, and rotate food items following safety guidelines.
• Track pantry, refrigerator, and freezer supply weekly.
• Maintain organized inventory logs and place orders with approval.
• Collaborate with Volunteer Coordinator to schedule and support volunteer meal groups.
• Ensure volunteers follow kitchen safety and cleanliness practices.
• Keep kitchen and storage areas clean and sanitary; follow state and city requirements.
