Job summary

Chief Seattle Club seeks a Raven Village Advocate to oversee shelter operations, provide staff coverage, coordinate supplies, and monitor resident behavior per the tenant code of conduct. You will assess clients’ needs and help them gain life skills for transitioning to permanent housing, with goals set and evaluated by the Community Services Director.

The role emphasizes safety, trauma-informed approaches, and collaboration with program leadership in a supportive Seattle environment.

Qualifications

• Basic computer skills and ability to teach others to use computers.
• Ability to handle complaints and conflicts calmly and professionally.
• Experience working with homeless and/or low-income populations preferred.
• Strong understanding of historical and intergenerational trauma among Indigenous communities.
• Crisis intervention skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks under stress.

Responsibilities

• Maintain inventory of janitorial and maintenance supplies and report needs.
• Inspect property weekly and arrange maintenance or repairs.
• Track completion of responsibilities on forms.
• Conduct monthly bed bug inspections and document findings.
• Supervise resident activities and maintain logs.
• Assist case managers and support residents’ needs.
• Enforce policies and prepare rooms for new tenants.
• Provide office support and ensure daily/weekly chores are completed.
• Respond to emergencies and participate in safety trainings.

Reports to: Program Manager Salary Range:Starting at $ 22.90- 27.84 per hour
Status: Regular Temporary Full-Time Part-Time FLSA: Exempt Non-Exempt

Job Summary:

Raven Village Advocate ensures the smooth operations of the shelter, provides staff coverage, assists with unit turnovers, coordinates supplies, and watches after residents' behavior for any violation of tenant code of conduct. The Raven Village Advocate assesses and assists each client throughout their stay with life skills that may need improvement, in order to help assure that the client can maintain permanent supportive housing upon exit from the program. Goals and objectives are established for the Raven Village Advocate are evaluated and conducted by the Community Services Director.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Maintain an inventory of janitorial and maintenance supplies. Communicate supply needs to the Program Manager.
• Conduct weekly inspections of property and arrange needed maintenance and repairs.
• Track completion of these responsibilities on the appropriate forms.
• Conduct monthly bed bug inspections and document findings.
• Attend special event and staff meetings
• Sort and organize incoming donations
• Supervise resident activities at the shelter and maintain resident daily logs
• Provide assistance to case mangers
• Conduct room checks as needed, maintain the overall cleanliness of the Site
• Enforce policies and procedures, adhering to program and CSC guidelines.
• Prepare vacant bedrooms for new tenants.
• Assist with office support services.
• Ensure completion of daily chores and weekly deep-clean chores.
• Provide instruction to residents when necessary.
• Issue and enforce consequences when necessary for noncompliant residents.
• Ensure residents who are on sobriety or mental health compliance plans are successfully completing those plans

Support resident safety by responding appropriately to emergencies, reporting hazards or incidents promptly, and modeling safe practices in alignment with agency policies and trauma-informed care principles. Completion of all safety-related trainings. May be asked to participate in safety meetings.

Other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Proven Experience:

• Comfortable with computers and teaching other to use computers
• Ability to handle complaints/conflicts in a calm and professional manner
• Experience working with homeless and/or low-income population is preferred
• Must have a strong understanding of historical and intergenerational trauma among Indigenous communities
• Strong crisis intervention skills with ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks under stressful conditions

Other Factors

• CPR & AED first aid certification
• Experience working with Native American population and/or strong awareness of Native Culture

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent

Physical Requirements:

• Most positions at CSC are exposed to members of the community who have experienced or are experiencing trauma in various forms including but not limited to: domestic violence, sexual violence, homelessness, unemployment, financial hardship, etc. As a result, staff is at risk of secondary trauma. Employees are encouraged to seek external support and maintain self-care when working indirectly or directly with clients. Mental health care referrals for employees are available.
