Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 0-2 years of fabrication/assembly experience preferred.
• 3 years' experience in planning, layout and building to blueprints or specs preferred.
• Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes including cutting, bending, welding and assembly techniques.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and assemble components while maintaining critical dimensional tolerances.
• Set up and operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers to cut, bend, block and form materials.
• Layout and mark dimensions and reference lines on material using shop math and layouts to trace patterns.
• Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff and smooth surfaces with hand tools and portable power tools.
• Review and interpret military manuals, technical orders, modification work orders, blueprints, sketches and product specs to determine fabrication sequence.
• Follow safety rules and use protective equipment; stay alert for unsafe conditions.

Overview

The Sheet Metal Fabricator plans, layouts, fabricates, assembles, installs and repairs sheet metal parts for a variety of aircraft and components.

Responsibilities

• Possesses a high level of attention to detail and workmanship to fabricate and assemble components while holding key critical dimensional tolerances
• Proficient in set-up and operation of fabricating machines, such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers, to cut, bend, block and form, or straighten materials
• Understands how to lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on material applying knowledge of shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop and trace patterns of product/parts
• Trims, files, grinds, deburrs, buffs, and smooths surfaces, using hand tools and portable power tools
• Reviews, reads and understands military technical manuals, technical orders, modification work orders, blueprints, sketches and product specifications to determine sequence, method of fabrication, assembly and installation.
• Complies with safety rules and procedures and uses protective equipment as required; remains alert for unsafe conditions
