Step Into the RoleImagine starting your shift by transforming engineering intent into precisely cut parts. As our Sheet Metal Nesting Programmer (CAD/CAM), you turn blueprints into optimized programs that squeeze every ounce of value from each sheet—reducing waste, improving throughput, and keeping production humming. You’ll collaborate with engineers, station leaders, and production teams to ensure accuracy, repeatability, and an efficient flow of work across the floor. You’ll lead by example—living BAC’s values of Earning Trust, Embracing Responsibility, Showing Courage, and Driving Innovation—while mentoring junior programmers and supporting daily priorities. At BAC, every role exists to do the right thing in the right way.How You’ll Spend Your DayProgram and Optimize: Build CNC tool paths for cutting, bending, and pressing processes; set feeds, speeds, tooling, and machine parameters aligned to material and equipment capabilities.Translate Designs: Read and interpret drawings with precision—dimensions, GD&T/tolerances, orientation, features, and material/thickness—then nest parts for maximum yield.Verify Quality: Measure parts, check tolerances, validate cut accuracy and fit; use inspection tools and sampling plans to ensure consistency and function.Plan to Demand: Prioritize jobs against lead times; coordinate with production on resources and material availability to meet schedules.Drive Efficiency: Maximize machine utilization, reduce scrap, set realistic timelines, monitor progress, minimize downtime, and align with Engineering on design changes.Troubleshoot Quickly: Resolve nesting conflicts, tool-path errors, material inconsistencies, calibration and communication issues, and shop-floor bottlenecks.Your Impact & ScopeYou’ll report to a Team Leader, Station Leader, or designated supervisor, and serve as a hands-on leader who mentors junior mechanics/programmers. As a senior subject-matter expert, you may be tapped for regional project teams and to step into department leadership needs. What You BringClear written communication—document processes and share updates in professional, concise emails/memos.Strong verbal skills—collaborate effectively with BAC colleagues and customers; explain technical concepts cleanly.Deep familiarity with BAC’s models, components, and part ecosystem.Expertise in CAD/CAM and nesting tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ProNest).Solid grounding in geometry and manufacturing methods, including tolerancing and cutting approaches.Meticulous attention to detail for accurate placement and optimized nesting.Root-cause-oriented problem solver across nesting and machine operations.Comfort with precision instruments: tape measure, micrometer, protractor.Preferred: at least one year in the department.Understanding of unit specs spanning motors, plumbing, and electrical aspects.Able to interpret last-minute customer changes and accurately log shortages.Continuous improvement mindset; support RCA activities.Strong safety habits and adherence to standards.Excel proficiency—update data and create metrics using pre-formatted sheets.Adaptable across multiple workstations and open to change.Experience contributing on cross-functional teams to achieve plant goals.Tools You’re Confident WithCAD/CAM SoftwareMachine programming experienceWORKING CONDITIONSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The working environment includes lifting up to 50lbs. Occasional work at heights of up to 20 feet. Standing is to be expected up to 80% of the time. Additional activities include: walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and sitting. Fine hand manipulation of controls is needed as well as hand eye coordination to perform changes. Working hours can include any of three shifts and generally are scheduled for forty hours a week. Some weekend overtime is to be expected. Working temperatures include both wide fluctuations within the plant as well as ambient outside temperatures
