Job Overview

Support and consistently reinforce the Mission and Core Values of M&D Mechanical Contractors, Inc. A sheet metal mechanic specializes in designing, assembling, installing, and repairing sheet metal duct systems and equipment. This includes ductwork for HVAC systems as well as various components for industrial and commercial applications. Using tools and machinery, they install metal duct into structures, ensuring precise measurements and adherence to specifications and codes. Focused on safety and craftsmanship, sheet metal mechanics often collaborate with other tradespeople to integrate their products into the structural design.

Note: NO PER DIEM OR RELOCATION AVAILABLE. SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST RESIDE WITHIN 60-MILES OF DECATUR, AL.

TOP OUT JOURNEYMAN BASE RATE - $32.00/HR + $2.00 SITE SPECIFIC PAY (FBI/MSIC-ONLY) (RATE DEPENDENT ON BENEFIT ELECTION)

Functional Duties & Requirements

Sheet metal mechanics install products made of thin sheet metal, such as ducts for HVAC systems. Their duties include:

• Following safety guidelines and using protective equipment
• Reading and interpreting drawings, sketches, or plans
• Measuring, cutting, bending, and shaping sheet metal
• Installing and fastening metal components securely
• Repairing damaged metal parts
• Inspecting systems for quality and compliance
• Maintaining equipment and tools
• Collaborating with other construction professionals

Job Specific Duties

• Installing ducts, vents, or partitions per SMACNA standards
• Sketching duct system transitions and connections
• Securing and leveling duct systems
• Fitting and joining duct sections for airtight connections
• Using specialized equipment for system efficiency
• Adjusting installations for optimal performance

Qualification Standards

• High school diploma or GED, or trade school
• HVAC installation experience preferred
• Proficiency in reading/writing English and basic math
• Understanding of HVAC systems
• Ability to read project drawings
• Detail-oriented and organized
• Self-check work for accuracy
• Ability to manage multiple tasks
• Strong team player

Physical Involvement

Tasks may include climbing ladders, handling objects, lifting 30-50 pounds, standing, sitting, and more.
