TDIndustries, Inc. is seeking a Sheet Metal Mechanic to assemble, install and repair HVAC systems at our Texas facilities. You will follow specifications and building codes to install ducts, fittings, and air handling equipment, ensuring proper testing and system integrity.

Travel is required to locations such as McAllen and Lockhart, with emphasis on safety, proper tool use and coordination with plumbing and welding teams. A High School diploma or GED is required, with craft training preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Read specifications, submittals, plans and drawings to plan HVAC duct installations.
  • Install, test and repair sheet metal ducts, fittings and hangers to code requirements.
  • Use hand and power tools to assemble and join ductwork, test for leaks, and seal joints.
  • Support safety practices including PTSP and 6S in the work area.
  • Assist other trades as needed and travel to specified sites in TX.

Job Summary

Our Sheet Metal Mechanic must have the ability and experience to assemble, install and repair HVAC systems. Installs these systems according to specifications and appropriate trade and building codes. These systems may consist of pipes, fittings, air handling equipment, control boxes, air conditioning ducts, grease ducts and hoods, ventilators, grills and louvers or other sheet metal products and equipment. Responsible to test all systems.

Must be open to travel.

Essential Duties
  • Reads and understands specifications, submittals, building plans and shop drawings to aid the required sequence of installation of HVAC systems.
  • Maintains the work area in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations; supports implementation of 6S (safety, sort, set, shine,standardize, and sustain).
  • Owns and maintains required personal hand tools from TDIndustries’ tool list, and properly uses all Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and safety equipment. Assists with Pre-Task Safety Planning (PTSP) when required.
  • Sets up and operates soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts when needed.
  • Helps plumbers, welders, and pipe fitters as needed.
  • Inspects and reports any concerns to their direct supervisor after review of the structure and hanger detail to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of ductwork.
  • Locates and marks position of duct work, connections and passage holes for duct in walls and floors using ruler, level and laser.
  • Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate runs of duct using hand and power tools.
  • Assembles and installs sheet metal ducts, fittings and hangers composed of metals such as iron, steel, copper, brass and sheet lead and nonmetals such as fiberglass, vinyl flex duct, concrete ducts and plastic using hand tools and power tools.
  • Joins duct and fittings using screws, bolts, S and drives, flanges, solder, solvents, caulking and weld joints.
  • Smooths seams, joints or burred surfaces using files, portable grinders and electric duct hammers.
  • Sets up equipment to fill duct systems with air or smoke to determine if system is leaking.
  • Installs and repairs air conditioning equipment such as air handlers, VAV boxes, fans and fan housings and similar air conditioning, heating accessories and ventilation equipment. Provides temporary sealing of duct ends and equipment protection.
  • Other duties as required.
