Sheet Metal Former - Must-Have Requirements
- Must have a valid driver's license
- This is an extremely physical manufacturing position
- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds multiple times throughout the workday
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and work on the manufacturing floor for extended periods
- Must be comfortable performing physically demanding work throughout the entire shift
- Ability to read and understand blueprints
- Ability to use calipers and other measuring equipment
- Ability to operate a hydro press
- Ability to perform check and straighten methods
- Ability to safely operate a forklift
- Ability to use a plasma cutter, drill press, grinders, and welding equipment
- Basic understanding of heat treating
- Strong attention to detail and safety
Sheet Metal Former - Position Summary
The Sheet Metal Former is responsible for forming sheet metal components to meet engineering requirements. This position operates hydro presses and uses check and straighten methods to produce accurate, quality parts. This is an extremely physical, hands‑on manufacturing position. The employee will spend most of the workday on the manufacturing floor performing repetitive physical tasks, handling sheet metal and other materials, operating equipment, and moving components. The ideal candidate must be physically capable of performing demanding work throughout a full shift and comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.
Sheet Metal Former - Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate hydro presses to form sheet metal components
- Perform complex forming operations
- Use check and straighten methods to meet engineering requirements
- Read and interpret blueprints and engineering specifications
- Measure parts using calipers and other measuring equipment
- Inspect formed components for accuracy and quality
- Perform basic heat treating processes as required
- Lift, carry, position, and move materials and components throughout the workday
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment
- Operate plasma cutters
- Operate drill presses and grinders
- Operate multiple types of welding equipment
- Work on the manufacturing floor for extended periods
- Perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the shift
- Follow safety procedures and work instructions
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Assist with other manufacturing and production duties as needed
