Job summary

Mayville Engineering Company, Inc. in Raleigh, NC, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with hands-on sheet metal experience to review 3D CAD models (STEP/IGES), analyze drawings, and determine material specs and tolerances for hardware insertion and fabrication.

You will coordinate with manufacturing teams on laser cutting, punching, forming, welding, and coating processes, use SolidWorks or Creo and Amada AP100 for nesting, and help optimize cycle times and material utilization.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent hands-on sheet metal fabrication experience.
• 3+ years in a precision sheet metal fabrication, machining, or contract manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo) and sheet metal estimating/nesting software (Amada AP100).

Responsibilities

• Analyze 3D CAD models to determine material specifications, tolerances, and hardware insertion needs.
• Develop step-by-step fabrication routing including laser cutting, punching, forming, hardware insertion (PEMs), welding (TIG/MIG), and powder coating.
• Identify tooling requirements and press brake tonnage limits required to successfully manufacture the part.
• Source outside service quotes for finishing processes like plating, anodizing, heat-treating, or silkscreening.
• Partner with the shop floor, programming team, and engineering to ensure estimated processes match actual production capabilities.
