Job summary

Gallo Mechanical LLC is seeking a Sheet Metal Estimator to join our Preconstruction team. You will develop cost estimates for sheet metal and HVAC ductwork, bid projects, and support pre-construction activities.

The ideal candidate reads drawings and specs, performs quantity takeoffs, assembles detailed cost breakouts, and collaborates with suppliers and the sales team to win proposals. This role requires proficiency with Trimble Autobid, FastDUCT, Bluebeam, and Excel, and a commitment to SMACNA

Qualifications

• Experience developing cost estimates for sheet metal and ductwork.
• Proficiency with estimating software and plan reviews.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and SMACNA standards.

Responsibilities

• Read drawings, specs, and proposals to define bid scope.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for sheet metal ductwork.
• Create detailed cost estimates and bid forms with clear scope.
• Monitor bid calendar and coordinate proposals across multiple pursuits.
• Review material takeoffs for duct gauge, insulation, and fittings.
• Compile takeoffs, fabrication costs, labor hours, and equipment summaries.
• Obtain pricing for materials (galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum).
• Solicit bids from sheet metal subcontractors and vendors.
• Review subcontractor quotes for alignment with specs and SMACNA standards.
• Draft and finalize proposals and cost breakouts with documented scope.
• Assist in preparing conceptual budgets and procurement strategies.
• Attend scope review meetings with clients, engineers, and GC teams.
• Turn over estimating data and baselines to project management on award.

Job description

Gallo Mechanical is looking for a Sheet Metal Estimator to join our high performing Preconstruction team. As a Sheet Metal Estimator, you are responsible for managing all aspects of developing cost estimates for sheet metal and HVAC ductwork scopes, bidding projects, and other pre-construction related services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Reading mechanical drawings, specifications, and requests for proposals to understand the full sheet metal scope of work to bid, including supply, return, exhaust, and specialty duct systems.

• Performing detailed quantity takeoffs of sheet metal ductwork using Trimble Autobid Sheet Metal, FastDUCT, or equivalent estimating software.

• Creating detailed cost estimates and high-level scoping of sheet metal and ductwork projects to produce the estimate summary.

• Monitoring the weekly bid calendar and ensuring timely completion of proposals across multiple concurrent pursuits.

• Reviewing material takeoffs for completeness and accuracy, including duct gauge, sealing class, insulation, and specialty fittings.

• Compiling takeoffs, fabrication costs, labor hours, and equipment summaries into the project estimate.

• Obtaining pricing for specialty sheet metal materials including galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum, dampers, louvers, and access doors.

• Soliciting bids from sheet metal subcontractors, fabricators, and vendors.

• Reviewing scope of subcontractor and vendor quotes to ensure alignment with project specifications and SMACNA standards.

• Drafting and finalizing proposals, bid forms, and cost breakouts with clearly documented scope, assumptions, inclusions, and exclusions.

• Assisting in preparing conceptual budgets from preliminary design documents.

• Assisting sales teams with procurement strategies for sheet metal scopes.

• Attending project scope review meetings with clients, mechanical engineers, and GC teams.

• Turning over all estimating information and cost baselines to the project management team on awarded projects.

• Ability to read and interpret mechanical project documents including drawings, specifications, and SMACNA standards.

• Proficiency in sheet metal estimating software — Trimble Autobid Sheet Metal, FastDUCT, QuoteSoft, or equivalent required.

• Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu for plan review, takeoff markup, and document management.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for cost modeling and estimate summaries.

• Working knowledge of sheet metal gauges, materials, duct fabrication methods, and field installation practices.

• Understanding of SMACNA standards for duct construction, pressure classes, and sealing classifications.

• Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment, managing simultaneously occurring bids and deadlines.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills for coordination with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
