Job summary

ProYouth’s after-school program seeks a Program Leader I to oversee daily operations at assigned Self-Help Enterprises centers. You supervise school-age youth, maintaining a safe, welcoming environment and facilitating academic support, enrichment, recreation, and youth development activities.

The role involves opening/closing centers, managing attendance, and representing ProYouth on-site while adhering to policies and safety requirements. Part-time, hourly work with multiple CA locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• High School diploma or equivalent AND 48 completed College Units OR NCLB Paraprofessional Certification.
• A minimum of two years’ experience working with youth is desirable.

Position Summary

The Program Leader I is responsible for the daily operation and implementation of ProYouth’s after-school program at an assigned Self-Help Enterprises (SHE) community center. The Program Leader supervises and engages school-age youth of varying ages while maintaining a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and engaging environment. Responsibilities include opening and closing the community center, preparing program spaces, and facilitating academic support, enrichment, recreation, and youth development activities. The Program Leader also supports community and family events and promotes the program within the SHE community to increase awareness, participation, and student attendance. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate daily attendance records, completing required program documentation, entering attendance data, and fulfilling all CACFP snack distribution and meal count requirements. The Program Leader maintains program supplies and equipment, builds positive relationships with students and families, and serves as ProYouth’s primary on-site representative while ensuring all ProYouth and SHE policies, procedures, and safety requirements are followed.

Primary Role and Responsibilities

• Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g., classroom, playground, library, etc.) for the purpose of enforcing SHE and ProYouth expectations and procedures regarding student behavior and participation and/or providing a safe, respectful and positive learning environment.
• Work in conjunction with the Site Director and all program staff to ensure that activities are exciting and relevant to youth as well as well-thought out and organized.
• Address issues, concerns, and challenges to immediate supervisor
• Build and maintain a high level of trust through effective communication methods.
• Model and promote the mission and values of ProYouth through appropriate appearance, words and actions.
• Build positive and professional relationships with SHE community members, coworkers, supervisors, ProYouth executive and administrative staff
• Participate as a positive team member for the purpose of enhancing and sharing knowledge and skills for the delivery of best practices.

Education and Experience

General Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
• Must pass a DOJ/FBI background check.
• Must receive TB clearance.
• Evidence of adequate auto insurance coverage is required. You must be listed as an ensured driver.

Environmental Conditions

• Ability to work in multiple settings, the indoor classroom environment, and active outdoor locations

Physical Demands

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, perform grasping and handling motions, and torso rotations on a continuous basis to engage and guide children’s classroom and playground activities.
• Able to lift and carry 20 pounds of materials
• Able to reach in all directions.
• Adequate sight or corrected vision for the purpose of reading directions and printed or written materials.
• Able to hear and speak to communicate with coworkers, students, and the public.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate instructional equipment.
• Work in a classroom and outdoor environment, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
