Job summary

WES HEALTH SYSTEM seeks a Program Coordinator to oversee the planning and execution of structured after-school activities for children and adolescents. The role collaborates with Group Leaders and serves as the primary contact for referrals and program administration.

The position requires a degree in education or human services and experience with youth, plus CPR/First Aid training and background clearances. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent with experience working with children and youth.
  • Associates degree or credits equivalent with experience working with children and youth.
  • HS Diploma and three or more years working in and overseeing a program with children and youth.
  • Experience in sensitivity with multicultural settings.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and working with students ages 5–18.
  • CPR and First Aid training completed.
  • Clear FBI, criminal background check and child abuse history required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain policies and procedures of the program, assuring compliance.
  • Serve as point person for emergencies.
  • Report emergencies to the Sr. VP of Operations.
  • Plan and provide nurturing, structured after-school activities for students.
  • Handle administrative duties and weekly scheduling.
  • Maintain student records and program documentation.
  • Communicate with teachers and parents and participate in conferences.
  • Supervise Group Supervisors and lead outreach to youth.

They maintain connections with parents, school personnel and other outside programs who are involved in the student's lives.

They will work with the Group Leaders to provide quality programming in health, education, and recreation to children and adolescents. Additionally, the Program Coordinator serves as the main contact for referrals and to the administration where the program will be housed. They maintain connections with parents, school personnel and other outside programs who are involved in the student's lives.

ESSENTIAL & CORE FUNCTIONS:
  • Maintains policies and procedures of the program, assuring compliance with each
  • Serve as point person for emergencies
  • Reports to the Sr. VP of Operations any and all emergencies and/ or problems
  • Plan, develop and provide a nurturing, structured and enriching program of after school activities for students
  • Perform various administrative functions of the program such as composing, copying and distributing work, planning and preparing a weekly schedule for class and any other duties as assigned by the Sr. VP of Operations
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment for the program
  • Create structured well-rounded programs for students
  • Serve as the Youth/Stakholders Council leader
  • Perform outreach for youth recruitment
  • Perform outreach and contact students enrolled in the program who are not attending
  • Complete outreach to community leaders, groups, business with the goal of incorporating them into programming
  • In the absence of a Group Supervisor implement activities as planned
  • Supervise all Group Supervisors
  • Actively engage in activities with the children and acts as a role model participant
  • Implement a Strength Based Youth Development Approach in all interactions and programs with youth and their families
  • Maintain student records and overall program documentation as required by the program including but not limited to Student Success Skills, Project Based Learning, Attendance, physical exams, current emergency contact information and contact with adults involved in students' lives
  • Communicate with teachers and parents about children's daily activities and participate in parent conferences as needed
Assist with the manage
  • Assist with the management of behaviors in the program and on field trips using a proactive approach
  • Provide individual assistance to students or families as needed
  • Complete class presentations and preparation of students' evaluations
  • Attend all designated orientation sessions, all scheduled trainings and meetings
  • Enforce all rules fairly and consistently according to the policies outlined
  • Work cooperatively with Group Leaders and program staff making use of open communication and problem- solving skills
  • Report to work at your scheduled start time
  • Support the After School Mission and all administrative decisions
  • Abide by all agency policies and procedures
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned
Requirements
PREREQUISITES & QUALIFICATION FOR THE POSITION:

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, childhood development, special education, elementary education or the human services field.

OR

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with experience working with children and youth OR

An Associates Degree or the credits equivalent to one with experience working with children and youth OR

A HS Diploma and three or more years working in and overseeing a program with children and youth

Experience in sensitivity with multicultural settings.

Knowledge of and must be sensitive towards adolescent development issues and have a desire to work with students ages 5 through 18.

Successful completion of training in CPR, and First Aid.

Acceptable FBI, criminal background check and child abuse history clearances required.

COMPETENCIES & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
  • Proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Excell, Word and Power point
  • Solid oral and written communication skills including business writing, proper grammar and spelling
  • Good organizational skills including the ability to prioritize work and manage conflicting deadlines
  • Conflict resolution skills and peer mediation experience helpful
  • The ability to work well with others
  • The ability to handle conflicts with diplomacy and tact
  • The ability to listen and evaluate objectively
ORGANIZATIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY & RELATIONSHIPS:
  • The individual is to be supervised by SR VP of Operations
