Job summary

ProYouth Expanded Learning is seeking a Program Leader Sub to help manage a classroom, ensure student safety, and support daily program delivery. Responsibilities include project-based learning, positive discipline, and collaboration with site leaders to keep activities engaging for youth.

The role offers afternoon availability (2:00 PM–6:00 PM) with at least two days per week, and compensation at $18.00 per hour. Applicants must meet state requirements and pass background checks.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 48 college units or NCLB paraprofessional certification.
  • Minimum of 18 years old; must pass DOJ/FBI background check; TB clearance.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver License and adequate auto insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing a classroom and ensure student safety.
  • Facilitate daily program activities (sports, STEM, coding, nutrition, outdoor education, arts).
  • Support project-based learning and student mastery of new skills.

Position Summary

A Program Leader Sub is responsible for managing a classroom , ensuring the safety of students and facilitating daily implementation of each program. Programs may include but are not limited to: sports, STEM, Coding, nutrition, outdoor education, and creative arts. Working hours are based on site need and employee’s availability.

Work Schedule

  • Days: Available a minimum of 2 days a week
  • Hours: Be able to arrive to work by 2:00 PM, and work until 6:00 PM
Primary Role and Responsibilities
  • Support student mastery of new skills through project-based learning
  • Maintain a culture of safety and well-being with students in both the classroom and outdoor setting
  • Establish clear, consistent expectations for behavior and positive discipline.
  • Ensure that every student feels known, accepted, valued and respected.
  • Build and maintain a high level of trust through effective communication methods.
  • Model and promote the mission and values of ProYouth through appropriate appearance, words and actions.
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g., classroom, playground, library, etc.) for the purpose of enforcing school and ProYouth expectations and procedures regarding student behavior and participation and/or providing a safe, respectful and positive learning environment.
  • Work in conjunction with the Site Director and all program staff to ensure that activities are exciting and relevant to youth as well as well-thought out and organized.
  • Address issues, concerns, and challenges to immediate supervisor
  • Build positive and professional relationships with coworkers, supervisors, ProYouth executive and administrative staff, site principal, teachers and parents.
  • Participation in professional development, staff meetings, site training and professional learning communities
  • Participate as a positive team member for the purpose of enhancing and sharing knowledge and skills for the delivery of best practices.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned within the scope and range of knowledge base and training.

Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent AND
    • 48 completed College Units OR
    • NCLB Paraprofessional Certification
  • A minimum of two years’ experience working with youth is desirable
General Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Must pass a DOJ/FBI background check.
  • Must receive TB clearance.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver License
  • Must have adequate auto insurance and be listed as a covered driver

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, perform grasping and handling motions, and torso rotations on a continuous basis to engage and guide children’s classroom and playground activities.
  • Able to lift and carry 20 pounds of materials
  • Able to reach in all directions.
  • Adequate sight or corrected vision for the purpose of reading directions and printed or written materials.
  • Able to hear and speak to communicate with coworkers, students, and the public.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate instructional equipment.
  • Work in a classroom and outdoor environment, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
