Job summary

Newell Brands in Maryville, TN is seeking experienced Machine Operators to run high-speed and highly automated assembly and printing equipment for Sharpie, Expo, and Paper Mate pens. You will ensure safety, quality, and output while supporting continuous improvement on a 12-hour rotation.

The role requires handling complex automation, performing changeovers, and maintaining production records in a fast-paced environment. Competitive pay and shift differential are offered.

Qualifications

• 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience operating automated assembly, printing, packaging, or similar high-speed manufacturing equipment.
• Experience with machines that have complex automation, such as PLC-controlled equipment, MES Systems, HMIs, sensors, servos, or vision systems.
• Working knowledge of changeovers, line clearance, in-process quality checks, and basic troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions, SOPs, and basic production documentation.
• Basic math and measurement skills, and comfort with gauges, calipers, or other inspection tools.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.
• Ability to work as part of a team and communicate clearly across shifts.
• Ability to perform a standing job for a 12-hour shift, lift up to 35 pounds, and work in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, monitor and adjust automated assembly equipment and high-speed printing machines to meet production targets for safety, quality, cycle time, and output.
• Run multi-station assembly machines with feeders, bowl feeders, servo-driven stations, pick-and-place units, vision inspection systems and automated packaging.
• Set up and run high-speed printing equipment that decorates marker and pen barrels, including print engine setup, ink filling, and adjustments to print pads, lifters, and surface (flame) treatment.
• Perform changeovers and line setups for different products, tooling, components, and print jobs, following SOPs to hit changeover targets.
• Monitor machine performance through HMI screens, respond to alarms and faults, and do first-level troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
• Clear jams, replenish components and materials, and keep product flowing.
• Perform in-process quality checks, including visual inspections and gauge or measurement checks, on assembly and print quality (registration, ink coverage and adhesion), and document results per work instructions.
• Keep scrap within specified limits, identify root causes and elevate to Maintenance, Quality or Engineering when needed.
• Complete production records, calculations, and shift handoff notes accurately.
• Perform autonomous maintenance and preventive maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubrication, and inspections.
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts that support OEE, scrap reduction and waste elimination.
• Follow lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and all safety procedures.
• Keep your work area clean and organized using 6S standards.
