The University of New Mexico's Chemistry Department seeks a Shared Lab Research Scientist to lead the development and management of a department-wide shared instrumentation lab, providing training and oversight for faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and other lab users.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Responsibilities

Establish and maintain standard operating procedures.
Development of user access and certification programs.
Training faculty, graduate students, undergraduate students, and other laboratory users.
Coordinating instrument scheduling and usage.
Overseeing billing and cost-recovery processes.
Troubleshooting equipment issues, coordinating maintenance and service contracts.
Ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
Provide technical guidance on instrumentation use and capabilities.
Identifying instrument needs for research and teaching.
Coordination of annual users meeting to encourage and enhance collaboration.
Generate income for the Shared lab via grants and user outreach.
Support instructional activities through laboratory preparation, technical support, and operational oversight for CHEM 422L.
