Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking an experienced space scientist to provide leadership in laboratory-based research, overseeing experimental design, calibration plans, and acting as a key SME within a diverse R&D organization. The role spans space physics, sensor development, and instrument validation with a team of ~30 staff and students.

Responsibilities include instrument design and data analysis, flight operations planning, and mentoring trainees.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a STEM field and 6 years of relevant experience or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
• Proven leadership of technical teams, projects, or organizational efforts.

Responsibilities

• Oversee activities within multiple space science laboratories.
• Perform space instrument design, development, calibration, and data analysis.
• Serve as SME for ion beam, plasma, and charged particle source operations, characterization, and maintenance.
• Assist in flight instrument operations planning and execution.
• Mentor students, postdocs, and junior staff.
