Job summary

The City of New York's Department of Environmental Protection seeks an Environmental Engineering Intern to assist in investigations of the City's sewer system, perform calculations, and help manage records for contract activities. The intern will support field and office work under supervision by the Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations.

Responsibilities include preparing updates and reports, coordinating with supervisors, and ensuring compliance with regulations and project requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in an engineering field as specified.
• Engineering technology degree with two years of environmental engineering experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and issue written updates, maps, etc. for supervisors and address issues per Agency policy.
• Perform simple engineering calculations for sewer investigations, flow, and design capacity.
• Track and update schedules for ordered work based on field conditions.
• Communicate status to superiors and management; report unanticipated conditions.
• Write comprehensive reports on work, bid item analysis, minutes, delays, incidents, and complaints.

Education

Baccalaureate degree in environmental, fire protection, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering

Baccalaureate degree in environmental, fire protection, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering technology with two years of related experience
