Job summary

The City of Hutchinson, Kansas is looking for a Sewer Maintenance Worker to support the Public Works team. The role focuses on maintaining sanitary sewer lines, operating department equipment, and ensuring safe, efficient service to residents.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED and 1–3 years of similar experience. A valid Kansas driver’s license and Class B CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements are required or obtainable within 90 days.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to read and interpret schematics or maintenance manuals.
• Effective communication and public relations skills for community interaction.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot basic sewer maintenance equipment and vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Performs maintenance and repairs to the sanitary sewer systems and ensures proper sewer flow.
• Operates heavy department equipment (sewer cleaners, video unit, backhoes, dump trucks, flush trucks).
• Locates sewer lines for construction projects and assists during emergencies.
• Performs other duties as required by the department.
