Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in personal injury law, specifically in settlement negotiation or claims handling.
  • Strong knowledge of California personal injury law, insurance policies, and medical terminology.
  • Proven ability to negotiate effectively and resolve cases efficiently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software (Salesforce, Litify, or similar).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working directly with insurance carriers or adjusters.
  • Background in plaintiff-side personal injury or claims adjusting.
  • Bilingual (Spanish or other) is a must.

Job description

The Settlement Negotiator is responsible for the following:

  • Analyze case values and negotiate settlements directly with insurance carriers, defense counsel, or third-party administrators.
  • Evaluate medical records, bills, policy limits, and liability to develop strong demand arguments and counteroffers.
  • Present case value recommendations to attorneys and clients, adjusting strategy based on feedback and case progress.
  • Ensure settlements are in the best interest of the client and firm, considering economic damages, policy limits, and comparative fault.
Client Communication:
  • Provide clients with detailed updates regarding case status, offers, and settlement discussions.
  • Address client questions and concerns with empathy, professionalism, and clarity.
  • Obtain client approval and signatures on settlement agreements and releases.
Case Coordination:
  • Collaborate with Case Managers and Attorneys to confirm demand packages are complete and accurate.
  • Coordinate with the Liens and Medical Records Department to verify reductions, balances, and any outstanding issues before and after settlement.
  • Work closely with accounting/disbursement teams to ensure accurate closing statements and client disbursements.
Documentation & Compliance:
  1. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the firm’s case management system (e.g., Salesforce, Filevine, or similar).
  2. Ensure all settlement offers and negotiations are documented with appropriate notes and approvals.
  3. Prepare and process all settlement-related documentation, including releases, reductions, and closing statements.
