Job summary

Cosma International in Clinton, TN, is seeking a skilled Laser/Machine Operator to ensure quality and conformance to customer specifications. You will set up laser tooling, program CNCs, and troubleshoot equipment to maintain efficient production rates.

This role requires knowledge of G-code, SPC, and 3D CNC concepts; TPM tasks and continuous improvement are encouraged. Join a team dedicated to safety, quality, and on-time delivery.

  • Laser machine operation and CNC programming/set-up.
  • Experience with SPC and G-code programming.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure quality and conformance to customer specs per control plans (IATF16949) and stop non-conforming processes.
  • Set up laser tooling and fixtures per production schedules to attain First Off quality and machine rates.
  • Set up holding tooling, fixtures, and sensors in the laser cutting machine and load CNC programs.
  • Troubleshoot and operate laser equipment to maintain quality at acceptable machine rates and minimize downtime.
  • Document standardized laser changeover activities and work cell layouts to minimize downtime.
  • Perform basic tool/fixture/equipment repairs with support from Maintenance Technicians and Laser Engineering team.
  • Perform TPM tasks per TPM schedule from Laser Maintenance & Engineering team.
  • Capture continuous improvement suggestions to improve uptime, safety, and quality.
  • Follow work instructions and 100% visual inspections, labeling per specs.
  • Housekeeping and 5S duties.

Responsibilities

Responsible for quality & conformance of product to customer specifications per control plans utilizing IATF16949 documented systems; authority to stop non-conforming processes and report same to Supervisor, Quality Assurance and/or Engineering representative

  • Orchestrate timely & efficient set-up of Laser tooling and fixtures as required by production schedules to attain a quality First Off product and attain machine rates
  • Set-up of holding tooling, fixtures, & sensors in the Laser cutting machine; mount and align fixture(s) & load CNC programs in a neatly organized, safe, & timely manner
  • Troubleshoot & operate Laser equipment to attain and maintain a quality product at an acceptable machine rate while minimizing machine downtime
  • Create and document standardized Laser changeover team activities including Operator and Material Handler duties & work cell layouts which minimize downtime
  • Perform basic tool, fixture, and equipment repairs as required during setup activities with support from Maintenance Technicians and Laser Engineering team
  • Perform Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) tasks as required per the TPM schedule developed by the Laser Maintenance & Engineering team
  • Seek out and document Continuous Improvement suggestions which improve changeover efficiency, maximize machine uptime, and/or improve safety and/or quality
  • Follow written work instructions and quality inspections including 100% visual inspection, packaging, tagging and product labeling per the customer’s specifications
  • Housekeeping, 5S duties, and other activities as assigned
Qualifications
  • Laser machine operation and CNC programming & set-up
  • 2-4 years’ experience required
  • Prior Stamping or Assembly experience helpful but not required
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) experience
  • Knowledge & thorough understanding of standard "G code" programming
  • Knowledge & solid understanding of three-dimensional CNC machining
  • Fork truck license

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, setup and operating instructions and basic repair & maintenance documents
  • Ability to create & follow written set-up instructions and apply common-sense understanding of same
  • Ability to problem-solve and think in three dimensions (spatial reasoning)
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and/or employees
  • Ability to anticipate think ahead of actions
  • Knowledge of intermediate mathematical equations
  • Ability to work overtime as needed

  • Ability to move throughout the plant
  • Extended sitting and standing; reaching and bending
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. may be required
  • Loud work environment; compliance with personal protective equipment as required
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision
  • 100% visual inspection of finished goods and completed components
  • Good hand-eye coordination; gross & fine motor use skills required
