Job summary

Meherrin River Regional Jail is seeking a food service worker to supervise inmate cooks and prepare meals for inmates in a secure facility. You will oversee the preparation of meats, vegetables, breads, and desserts, ensure portion control, and maintain records related to kitchen operations.

Requirements include high school diploma, 18+, valid driver’s license, passing a drug screen and background check. Weekend availability and on-call status are required; ServSafe certifications are mandatory

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Pass a drug screening and background check.
• Must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license in VA/NC.
• Minimum of 1 year of food service preparation experience.
• ServSafe certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
• Must be reachable by telephone for emergency contact and willing to be on-call.

Responsibilities

• Direct contact and supervision of inmates in food service operations.
• Supervise preparation, cooking and serving of meals for inmates.
• Maintain records and reports related to kitchen activities and utensils.
• Ensure inmates do not have contact with staff food; prep staff meals daily.
