Job summary

GTG Peterbilt Davenport is seeking an experienced Service Writer/Advisor to greet customers, diagnose issues, and coordinate service department activities. You will manage work orders, track technician time, and assist with warranty processes in a fast-paced dealership setting.

The role requires strong customer service and computer skills, with a high school diploma or higher. Experience in a truck dealership is a plus, and the team offers competitive pay and benefits.

Responsibilities

• Greet and consult service customers about their problems.
• Coordinate and communicate with the service department.
• Open and close work orders with detailed information.
• Record mechanics' time for work orders and payroll.
• Answer phone calls for the Service Department and resolve complaints.
• Schedule appointments and supervise/assist technicians with diagnoses and repairs.
• Assist with warranty repair paper flow and parts coordination.
• Instruct the next shift’s service writer on special instructions and appointments.
• Keep Service Manager informed of customer issues and technician problems.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

GTG Peterbilt - Davenport is a full-service dealership with 12 service bays, 9 body shop bays including a state-of-the-art paint booth. We have a dedicated parts showroom with several million dollars of parts on hand. Our franchises include Peterbilt, Hino, Dependable Truck Parts (DTP) and TRP All Makes Parts. Being an integral part of the GTG Peterbilt, we are in the heart of the Midwest and one of their seven locations. We are looking for an experienced Service Writer/Advisor to join our dynamic team. The potential candidate will greet and consult service customers about their problems. This person will assist in the coordination and communications of the service department as well as perform a variety of other service-related tasks

Requirements

• Open and close work orders providing as much information as possible
• Record, adjust and report mechanics time for work orders and payroll
• Help cover phone calls for the Service Department
• Try to resolve customer complaints
• Schedule appointments
• Supervise and assist technicians with the diagnosis and repairs of their jobs
• Assist with warranty repair paper flow
• Consult with the parts department on special order parts and sublet repairs
• Instruct the following shift’s service writer on any special instructions and appointments
• Keep Service Manager informed of all customer complaints and technician problems
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Should possess a high school diploma
• A college degree or a certificate/degree from a trade school is preferred, but not required
• Must have strong customer service skills
• Must have general computer knowledge
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen
