Service Validation & Labor Time Technician – Troy, Michigan
Reports to the Service Engineering Manager. Responsible for on-vehicle development of removal and installation procedures, time studies, and validation of draft and finalized service procedures, diagnostic troubleshooting procedures and diagnostic scan tool content.
Responsibilities
- Create repair procedures and time study allowances across all vehicle commodities (Body, Interior, Chassis, Electrical, Propulsion, Restraints).
- Track detailed time allowance for all repair procedures using approved time‑tracking system software.
- Create time studies for Technical Service Bulletins, Recalls, and accessory installations.
- Collaborate with Slate service partners to maintain a labor time guide with change‑management tracking.
- Validate customer‑facing service removal and installation procedures and diagnostic troubleshooting trees on‑vehicle through multiple development milestones.
- Validate diagnostic scan tool content and FOTA updates through all vehicle milestones and post‑production.
- Identify repair efficiency opportunities.
- Respond to field inquiries and restudy requests regarding time‑study allowances.
- Coordinate test timing and planned workload with cross‑functional teams.
- Support validation of special service tool development with on‑vehicle testing.
- Escalate special tool identification and fastener torque specifications with Engineering.
- Assist with plant repair bay problem resolution during vehicle builds.
- Support Field Technical Support team service issue escalations as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college/university or completion of an automotive vocational program.
- ASE Master Technician Certification, or Master Technician Certification from an automotive OEM.
- Eight or more years of automotive technician experience, preferably with hybrid or electric vehicles.
- Hands‑on experience with high‑voltage EV systems, including diagnostics and testing.
- Previous automotive OEM experience preferred.
Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experienced with OEM time‑study procedures and documentation.
- Proficient reading electrical schematics and understanding basic electrical theory.
- Vehicle diagnostics and ECU troubleshooting on CAN and LIN.
- Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
- Knowledgeable of Health & Safety protocols.
- Experience with CAD and Polarion preferred.
- Experience with regulatory requirements preferred.
- Creative problem‑solving ability and strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written and oral communication; able to present technical content.
- Team collaboration and professional demeanor in a fast‑paced environment.
- Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office).
Physical Requirements
- Travel up to 10%.
- Lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
- Stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
Work Hours and Schedule
Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. EST. Flexibility may be required to meet project deadlines.
Work Authorization
