Service Unit Department Manager RN - Urology and Head and Neck

Location: Sacramento, CA
Manages a large unit or multiple units providing ambulatory services. Ensures staff provides high quality, accessible, cost-effective, patient-focused care that complies with local, state, and federal requirements. Develops and maintains clinical practice standards, budgets, and staff development.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Manage the operations of a large unit or multiple units, ensuring staff provide the highest quality care in compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare providers to establish and maintain patient care and service standards.
- Act as a patient advocate, resolving care issues.
- Design and evaluate processes to improve systems and patient care outcomes.
- Develop and monitor budgets and resource allocations.
- Monitor financial performance, identify cost reduction strategies, and improve quality of care/services.
- Determine staff mix, oversee screening, hiring, training, and ongoing staff development.
- Manage human resources, labor relations, safety, and risk management issues.
- Develop, implement, and monitor departmental policies and procedures aligned with organizational goals.
- Reevaluate and update job descriptions and pay structures as needed, with proper notice to affected employees.
Additional Details:
- Oversee nursing for surgical subspecialties, including Cosmetics and Plastic Surgery as needed.
Experience & Education:
- Minimum five (5) years of nursing management/leadership experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related health field, or four (4) years of relevant experience.
Licenses & Certifications:
- California Registered Nurse License.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
Additional Requirements:
- PALS, PEARS, and/or ACLS certifications may be required for specific departments.
- Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission standards, and other regulations.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least three (3) years of outpatient care experience.
- Clinical specialization in relevant practice areas.
- Master’s degree preferred.
