Job Title : Powertrain Rebuild Technician

Summary

The Powertrain Rebuild Technician is responsible for the disassembly, assembly, and inspection of powertrain components, including axles, transmissions, final drives, torque converters, and other hydraulic components of heavy construction equipment. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of the internal and external parts of powertrain components and their functionality.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The employee must satisfactorily perform the following essential functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions, provided they do not cause undue hardship.

  • Properly disassemble, reassemble, and test powertrain components, focusing primarily on CAT, Komatsu, Volvo, and John Deere heavy construction equipment.
  • Evaluate parts to determine reusability and diagnose the cause of failure.
  • Operate overhead cranes, power tools, and other shop equipment safely.
  • Operate oxy/acetylene torches. Welding experience a plus.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain a clean work area throughout the day to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct DYNO tests on components.
  • Assist in troubleshooting component issues as needed.
  • Uphold a high standard of quality in all work.
  • Provide a list of necessary parts for each work order to the Production Manager.
  • Collaborate with the Production Manager to ensure efficient workflow for all work orders in process.
  • Thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced service environment.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Complies with the requirements of the company’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System (when required).

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience in the rebuilding and testing of powertrain components, including but not limited to CAT, Komatsu, Volvo, and John Deere heavy construction equipment.
  • Experience operating heavy construction equipment safely, such as excavators, wheel loaders, dozers, and articulating dump trucks.
  • Maintain a tool inventory sufficient to perform assigned tasks.
  • Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to heat, noise, dust, etc.
  • Proficient in understanding machine layout and hydraulic components.

Education

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.

Certifications, Licensees Or Registrations Required/Preferred

  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills

  • 5 years’ experience particularly within the agriculture and construction parts sectors, preferred.
  • Mechanic knowledge, of CAT, Komatsu and other construction equipment.
  • Experience with Wheel Loaders, Excavators, Dozers, and off highway trucks.
  • Ability to operate a Forklift and Crane.
  • Able to understand layout of machine and transmission assembly.
  • Ability to multi task and the use of multiple tools.
  • Ability to navigate / read parts programs efficiently.
  • Proficient in welding techniques
