Responsibilities

  • Perform field service, refrigerant recovery, depot, logistics, maintenance, project-support, and other operational tasks as directed by the Service Manager or management.

Position Overview

The Service Technician I is an entry-level operational field service position supporting Hudson Technologies' industrial refrigerant recovery, reclamation, and HVAC/R service operations at customer facilities and Hudson locations throughout the United States. Working under the direction of senior technicians, supervisors, the Service Manager, project leads, or other designated management, the technician assists with refrigerant recovery, equipment setup and operation, basic maintenance and troubleshooting, mobilization/demobilization, and related operational support while developing technical competency through Hudson training and hands-on experience. This position is not limited to field service assignments. Technicians may be assigned to customer job sites, Hudson depots, equipment preparation and maintenance activities, logistics, training, project support, or other operational duties as determined by management. Work assignments, location, schedule, and responsibilities may change based on Hudson's business and customer needs.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Perform field service, refrigerant recovery, depot, logistics, maintenance, project-support, and other operational assignments as directed by the Service Manager or designated management. Employees are expected to remain flexible and perform duties necessary to support Hudson's operational and customer requirements, consistent with their training, qualifications, and applicable safety requirements.
  • Apply mechanical aptitude, technical training, and Hudson procedures to assist with basic troubleshooting and maintenance of industrial HVAC/R and refrigerant recovery equipment. Work within the technician's demonstrated competency and elevate advanced technical issues to senior technicians or management as appropriate.
  • Follow all company processes, procedures, safety standards, customer‑site requirements, and assigned schedules. Complete required daily documentation accurately and on time, including JSA/JHA documentation, timekeeping, refrigerant weights/quantities, equipment inspections, sampling/testing records, customer paperwork, work orders, and job‑progress reporting.
  • Strive to meet goals and Key Performance Indicators as outlined by the Service Manager
  • Provide support as needed to account managers for growth of sales and service opportunities
  • Demonstrates orientation toward excellent customer service by conducting daily activities, communications, and interactions in a cooperative, positive, and professional manner.
  • Support Hudson depot and logistics operations as assigned, including shipping/receiving, loading and unloading, deliveries, inventory, equipment staging, cleaning, organization, and preparation for upcoming mobilizations.
  • Inspect, clean, maintain, and prepare company equipment, vehicles, trailers, tools, hoses, recovery equipment, and work areas to ensure they remain safe, organized, job‑ready, and in proper operating condition. Promptly report damaged, expired, missing, or unsafe equipment.
  • Assist with the setup, operation, monitoring, breakdown, mobilization, and demobilization of high‑volume refrigerant recovery and transfer equipment, including pumps, recovery machines, bulk tanks, hoses, dryers, filtration equipment, flow meters, vacuum equipment, and associated transfer equipment, within the technician's training and qualifications.
  • Perform refrigerant transfer and recovery activities between customer systems, recovery equipment, bulk tanks, cylinders, and other approved containers in accordance with Hudson procedures, EPA requirements, customer requirements, and applicable safety standards.
  • Participate in daily safety planning, tailgate safety meetings, JSAs/JHAs, and hazard assessments; use required PPE; follow stop‑work, heat‑stress, fall‑protection, confined‑space, and other applicable safety requirements; and immediately report incidents, leaks, spills, equipment failures, or unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain professional conduct at customer facilities and comply with customer security, access, housekeeping, communication, and site‑specific requirements while representing Hudson Technologies.
  • Maintain required communication and job readiness. Keep company‑issued communication devices charged and available, monitor assigned communication channels, and promptly communicate schedule changes, delays, equipment issues, safety concerns, customer concerns, and project status to Hudson management.
  • Operate company vehicles and tow trailers when qualified and assigned; perform required inspections, properly secure loads and equipment, and comply with applicable DOT, company driving, and transportation requirements.
  • Work under the direction of the Service Manager, project lead, senior technician, or other designated Hudson management and cooperate effectively as part of a field, depot, or project team.
  • When not assigned to a customer job site, perform depot work, preventive maintenance, equipment preparation, cleaning, inventory, shipping/receiving, training, administrative/project support, and other operational duties as assigned by management.
  • Complete Hudson‑required training and progressively demonstrate competency in refrigerant recovery operations, equipment setup, electrical/mechanical troubleshooting, refrigerant handling, safety, documentation, and customer‑site operations.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as directed by the Service Manager or designated management based on operational and business needs. Responsibilities are not limited to field service work and may include depot operations, equipment maintenance and preparation, shipping and receiving, inventory, cleaning and organization, deliveries, training, administrative support, project preparation, and other reasonable duties within the employee's capabilities and training.
Required Skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively based on customer and project requirements, including regional and national assignments, frequent overnight travel, extended assignments away from home, overtime, weekends, and holidays when required.
  • Clean and valid driver’s license, CDL Class B with HazMat Endorsement preferred
  • Obtain a DOT Medical Card within 90 days of employment
  • Powered Industrial Truck (Forklift) Certification License
  • 3 phase power / control wiring knowledge and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of Industrial Cooling and Refrigeration Systems
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification preferred or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
  • Hands‑on mechanical/ technical experience

  • Must have the ability (required documentation) to travel domestically via aircraft when needed.
Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 0-1 years of relevant work experience; entry‑level candidates are encouraged. Technical school coursework in HVAC/R, an industrial trade, or hands‑on mechanical experience is a plus. Demonstrated customer‑service experience is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications

Completion of an HVAC or industrial trades vocational program or technical college coursework.

Prior internship or work experience in HVAC, refrigeration, industrial maintenance, mechanical service, or refrigerant recovery.

EPA 608 Universal certification already in hand and additional relevant safety training, such as OSHA-10.

CDL Class B with HazMat endorsement.

Familiarity with refrigerant recovery procedures, chillers, or industrial cooling systems through school or on‑the‑job exposure.

  • Flexibility to work variable schedules based on project and business needs, including days, nights, overtime, weekends, holidays, emergency/on‑call needs, consecutive workdays, and extended on‑site assignments, subject to applicable safety and work‑hour requirements.
Travel Requirements
  • This role involves significant travel to serve customers in the technician's region and throughout the United States. Assignments may include frequent same-day travel, regular overnight travel, and extended periods away from the employee's home location. Technicians must remain flexible and prepared to travel on short notice when business needs require. Work schedules may include days, nights, overtime, weekends, holidays, and extended on‑site work. Hudson provides required travel accommodations in accordance with company policy and maintains applicable safety requirements during travel and field assignments.
Field Assignment & Availability Expectations

Service Technician I is an operational position and is not limited to work performed at customer job sites. Management may assign technicians to field projects, Hudson depots, logistics, maintenance, training, equipment preparation, administrative/project support, or other business needs.

Technicians are expected to remain ready for assignment, maintain reliable communication, report as directed, and perform assigned duties within their training, qualifications, and applicable safety requirements.

Utilization and work assignments are determined by Hudson based on customer demand, project schedules, depot requirements, equipment needs, training requirements, and other operational priorities.
