The ideal candidate will have prior SCBA service experience, hands-on mechanical skills, and willingness to travel 25–30% with occasional overnight stays.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Prior experience servicing and maintaining SCBA equipment is highly desirable.
  • Technical training or certification related to SCBA maintenance is preferred.
  • Knowledge of NFPA safety standards and SCBA guidelines (Scott/3M) is expected.
  • Sound computer skills are essential.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, including overnight stays for remote or large jobs.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect SCBA and related equipment for readiness and compliance.
  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on SCBA equipment.
  • Conduct tests (pressure, airflow, leak) to manufacturer specs and standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, maintenance, and tests.

Job Description

Municipal Emergency Services, Inc. (MES) is looking for a full-time Service Technician (Air Products - SCBA). Our Service Technician (Air Products – SCBA) is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and testing the Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus used by firefighting personnel who work in environments with limited oxygen supply or hazardous atmospheres. Their main responsibility is ensuring that SCBA equipment is in optimal condition and ready for use during emergencies. The ideal candidate will conduct periodic service calls at Fire Departments, conducting preventative maintenance services on 3M/Scott Safety SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) and SCBA-related equipment.

Territory

The territory encompasses the counties within central Texas. (Example - Travis, Bastrop, Lee, Fayette, Burleson, Brazos, Hays, Comal, Kendall, Keer, Gillespie, Llano, Burnet, Manson, Milam, San Saba, Caldwell, Lampasas). The ideal candidate should reside within central Texas.

Travel

There will be some travel involved approximately 25-30% of time.

Essential Job Functions: Roles and Responsibilities
  • Equipment Inspection: Perform routine inspections and functional checks of 3M/Scott Safety SCBA and SCBA-related equipment to verify their readiness and compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  • Maintenance and Repairs: Conduct maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on 3M/Scott Safety SCBA and SCBA-related equipment, replacing worn or damaged components to ensure proper functionality.
  • Testing: Conduct tests on Scott/3M SCBA units, such as pressure tests, airflow tests, and leak tests, to verify that they meet or exceed manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all inspection, maintenance, and repair activities, including equipment condition, parts replaced, and testing results.
  • Calibration: Calibrate and adjust SCBA equipment to ensure accurate readings and safe operation.
  • Training: Train end-users and other personnel on the proper use, care, and maintenance of SCBA equipment.
  • Inventory Management: Manage spare parts and replacement components inventory, ensuring adequate stock for repairs and maintenance.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay current with safety regulations and industry standards for SCBA equipment and ensure that all equipment meets Scott/3M standards.
  • Customer Service: Interact with customers and end-users, addressing their concerns and assisting with equipment-related issues.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in servicing and maintaining SCBA equipment is highly desirable.
  • Additional technical training or certification related to SCBA equipment maintenance and repair is preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards, and manufacturer-specific guidelines for SCBA equipment, preferably Scott/3M.
  • Sound computer skills are essential.
  • Service Technicians must be willing to travel extensively and with occasional overnight stays for remote or large jobs

Physical Requirements
  • Physical fitness and lifting and carrying SCBA equipment (up to 50 lbs.) is required.
