Job summary

Swanson Flo is seeking a Field Service Technician — Valves, Actuators & Process Control in Bolingbrook, IL. You will repair, assemble, and start up valves, actuators, and related instrumentation at customer sites and in-house repair locations.

You will calibrate transmitters, troubleshoot control equipment, and ensure timely, correct service. Travel to customer sites is expected, with occasional multi-day assignments, while maintaining strong safety and documentation practices.

Qualifications

• Must have working knowledge of process control equipment including valves, actuators, and instrumentation.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on problem solving.
• Ability to read and interpret work instructions, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Strong people skills for professional customer interaction.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to a week when needed.
• Basic math skills including fractions, decimals, and measurements.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to building long-lasting customer relationships.

What You'll Do

Field Service and Repair

• Repair, assemble, and start up valves, electric and pneumatic actuators, and general process control instrumentation at customer facilities and at Swanson Flo in-house repair locations.


• Calibrate field instruments including level, pressure, temperature, and flow transmitters to specification.


• Troubleshoot process control equipment including valves, actuators, and instrumentation and complete repairs at the customer site or in-house as required.


• Ensure all customer equipment service is completed efficiently, on time, and correctly according to specifications.


• Assist with shop assembly needs as time and workload permit.

Customer Diagnosis and Safety

• Diagnose customer problems using proper tools and equipment, following on-the-job safety practices throughout every engagement.


• Complete accurate job documentation for every service call, including findings, work performed, and recommendations.


• Obtain and maintain required safety certifications for customer site access.


• Travel to customer sites as needed, with the ability to travel up to a week at a time when required.

Customer Relationship Management

• Serve as a direct, professional point of contact for customers during all service engagements — building trust and contributing to long-term customer satisfaction.


• Communicate clearly with customers on equipment status, repair options, and recommended next steps.


• Contribute actively to building strong, lasting customer relationships that reflect well on Swanson Flo and MCE.

Qualifications

What We're Looking For

Must Have

• A working knowledge of process control equipment including valves, actuators, and instrumentation.


• Strong mechanical aptitude with a genuine interest in product technology and hands‑on problem solving.


• Ability to read and interpret written work instructions, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.


• Strong people skills comfortable working directly with customers and representing the company professionally at all times.


• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.


• Ability and willingness to travel up to a week at a time when needed.


• Basic math skills including fractions, decimals, and measurements.

Nice to Have

• 3 to 5 years of experience in valve and actuation repair and service.


• Knowledge of industrial instrumentation, controls, and system setup.


• Experience with welding and machining.


• Familiarity with safety certification requirements for industrial and municipal facility access.
