Job summary

Kent Oil & Propane, Inc. in Michigan is seeking a propane service technician to install tanks and related equipment in compliance with NFPA standards.

A Class A or B CDL with tanker and hazmat endorsements (or ability to obtain quickly) is required; ability to lift up to 75 lbs is also essential. You will complete onboarding, training, and supervised installations as you gain proficiency with EDP processes, service orders, and documentation systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather and participate in after-hours on-call rotation.
• TSA clearance approved hazardous materials handling may apply.

Responsibilities

• Install propane tanks and related equipment in compliance with NFPA 58/54 and state/local rules.
• Complete necessary licensing, certifications, and ongoing training.
• Perform daily vehicle inspections and keep truck in excellent condition.
• Process service orders, documentation, and parts billing accurately.
• Provide seasonal delivery support by operating a delivery vehicle when needed.
• Report incidents to the General Manager promptly.
• Work in varied outdoor conditions and participate in an on-call rotation as needed.

Job description

• Install propane tanks and related equipment in full compliance with NFPA 58/54 and all state/local regulations.
• Complete any required state licensing, certifications, and ongoing training.
• Conduct daily vehicle inspections (DVIR) and maintain your truck in excellent working condition.
• Complete accurate service orders, documentation, and parts billing each day.
• Provide seasonal delivery support by operating a delivery vehicle when needed.
• Report any incidents or safety concerns immediately to the General Manager.
• Work in varied outdoor conditions and participate in an on‑call rotation as business needs require.

What You’ll Actually Do in Your First 30 Days

• Shadow a senior technician to learn our safety standards, installation methods, and customer service expectations.
• Complete onboarding training for CDL endorsements, propane safety, and state-specific compliance requirements.
• Begin performing supervised tank installations and equipment servicing to build proficiency with EDP processes.
• Learn our service order and documentation systems to complete work independently and accurately.

Must Haves

Nice to Haves

• 2–3 years of experience in propane, HVAC, or related technical work
• Familiarity with propane systems, NFPA standards, and industry regulations
• Technical aptitude and willingness to learn propane installation practices
• Strong customer communication and professional presence
• Basic computer skills for service orders and documentation

Pay Rate for this role is $25-28 hourly (depending on experience)
