Job summary

Star of Hope is seeking a facility maintenance professional to care for structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and landscape systems in Houston, TX. Responsibilities include installation, preventative maintenance, and service/repair of facility equipment and systems.

The role emphasizes life safety, compliance with codes, and supporting SOH’s mission to serve homeless men, women, and children. Occasional long hours, safety-first culture, and ministry involvement are expected.

Qualifications

• Education, Skills & Experience: Technical service school training, High School Diploma or GED and 1-year experience in repair and maintenance of industrial, commercial and/or residential facilities or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Good computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and Outlook, as well as other job-related software.
• Must have a basic knowledge of facility systems (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Painting, Carpentry, Landscape, Safety, Security, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Installation, preventative maintenance, service/repair of facility equipment, components and related equipment.
• Install, construct, and service/repair facility structural components: drywall, painting, doors, windows, ceilings, floors, roofing.
• Complete tasks for room “Make Ready” needs.
• Ensure all repairs, installations and service procedures comply with government ordinances and codes.
• Life safety is a priority; respond to security issues (door locks, cameras, fire/burglar alarms).
• Promote workplace safety and SOH policies.
• Assist with Volunteer projects as needed.
• Keep facility/workplace clean and well-kept.

Job Summary

Facility maintenance of structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and landscape systems as required. This includes new installation, preventative maintenance, and service/repair of facility equipment and structure.

Job Responsibilities

• Installation, preventative maintenance, service/repair of facility equipment, components and related equipment -- i.e., HVAC (temperature checks, coil cleaning and filter changes), plumbing, electrical (low voltage), security systems, appliances, vehicle inspections/maintenance, grounds/landscape and irrigation.
• Install, construct, and service/repair facility structural components that maintain architectural integrity –i.e., drywall, painting, doors, door hardware, windows, ceilings, floors, roofing and all other structural components.
• Complete tasks for room “Make Ready” needs.
• Complete all necessary paperwork involving job related tasks.
• Ensure all repairs, installations and service procedures comply with all applicable government ordinances and codes.
• Life safety is a priority. Must be responsive to security related issues in all facilities: door locks, security camera system, fire alarm, and burglar alarm.
• Practice, support and promote WORKPLACE SAFTEY. This includes all commonly accepted safety practices and SOH specific policies and procedures.
• Assist with Volunteer projects as needed.
• Ensure facility/workplace is clean and well-kept at all times.

Other Job Responsibilities

• Participate in Ministry and prayer activities, as appropriate.

Qualifications

Education, Skills & Experience: Technical service school training, High School Diploma or GED and 1-year experience in repair and maintenance of industrial, commercial and/or residential facilities or equivalent combination of education and experience. Good computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and Outlook, as well as other job-related software. Valid Texas Driver’s License with acceptable driving record and current liability insurance.

Must have a basic knowledge of facility systems (i.e., HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Painting, Carpentry, Landscape, Safety, Security, etc.). Able to read and understand construction plans and detailed drawings. Proficient with all hand and power tools normally associated with constructions trades and service industries as well as cleaning equipment and supplies.

Be able to work respectfully, professionally and in a Christ-like manner with everyone, able to maintain required client/staff boundaries and possess a willingness to serve the Lord in a ministry that deals with homeless men, women and children.

Ability to multi-task and function proficiently in skills and craft trades associated with construction and building maintenance. Participate as a team member and maintain a high level of service quality. Ability to work safely, promote a high level of safety awareness and foster the spirit of SOH’s Safety-First Program.

Equipment Used

Cleaning Supplies, General Maintenance Tools (hammer, screwdriver, drill, ladder etc.). The ability to correctly and safely utilize all hand and power tools normally associated with construction trades and service industries. Ability to utilize computers for the purpose of email, work order systems, construction plan retrieval/storage, diagnostics, word processing, trending and more. Valid Texas Driver’s License, with acceptable driving record and current liability insurance. Will drive SOH vehicles -- includes 8 to 15 passenger vans and pick-up truck. General Office Supplies -- Calculator, Telephone, Stapler, etc. Computer Equipment including monitor, keyboard, etc., Copier/Fax/Printer.

Software

Impak work order system, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Work Environment

Work environment encompasses the entire facility with inside and outside work, experiencing a wide range of temperatures. Normal business hours with occasional weekends, evenings and holidays, and possible overtime. Frequent visits to all Star of Hope facilities are required. Work schedule may be subject to change to meet the business needs of the mission. FPM uniform includes blue or black jeans (no holes or loose fringe), slip resistant shoes, and SOH provided shirts. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required as needed for completion of tasks. Exposure to infectious diseases, poor hygiene, drug usage, verbal and physical abuse and other emergency situations related to the homeless population is normal.

Relations with Others

Occasional contact with immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate managers, managers in other departments, volunteers and vendors. Occasional face to face discussions with individuals, telephone conversation, and electronic mail.

Physical Requirements

Medium workload. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds. Position requires ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, sit, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, use of fingers, handle, feel, talk, hear, taste/smell, perform repetitive motions, and drive. Technician must see in color and have a full field of vision and depth perception. Frequent use of close vision at 20 inches or less and distance vision at 20 feet or more.
