Job summary

Gift of Hope is seeking a skilled maintenance professional to perform upkeep, repair, installation, and minor construction across our facilities. Responsibilities include maintaining HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, and security systems, plus custodial duties and grounds care.

The role requires coordinating with vendors, managing preventive maintenance, adhering to codes, and responding to emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ industrial maintenance experience.
  • Strong manual dexterity and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • HVAC, including heating, ventilation and refrigeration, preferred.
  • Familiarity with building trades, construction methods/materials, HVAC, mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems; ability to use related tools.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, and improve Gift of Hope facilities across multiple sites.
  • Plan, schedule, and oversee equipment installations and preventive maintenance.
  • Coordinate with vendors and manage repairs of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting).
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local codes; oversee project management and contractor performance.
  • Provide timely repairs, document inspections, and manage on-call or after-hours emergencies.

Overview

Summary

Perform skilled maintenance, repair, adjustment, and minor construction work in the trades to ensure the facilities are properly maintained; duties may fall into a variety of trades, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, fire and life safety and security systems; perform general custodial and other tasks as assigned. Facilitate construction, modification, maintenance and repair of all Gift of Hope building facilities including tasks related to, but not limited to, general maintenance and improvements on all buildings and structures, grounds and plantings, plumbing, painting, lighting, custodial duties, fire/life safety, elevators, mechanical/electrical systems, parking lots, facility entrances, and equipment.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

The following essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation:

Adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
  • Organize, schedule and may also perform a variety of professional/technical equipment installations; monitor the start-up of new installations, report findings to Director
  • Schedule and facilitate vendors to install and repair equipment at all Gift of Hope facilities
  • Plan, organize, control, integrate and execute projects related to the construction, maintenance and repair of buildings and various features such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, landscape and custodial services; bring in appropriate resources and coordinate contracted services as needed to accomplish repairs
  • Participate in the investigation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of buildings and equipment
  • Establish and carry out a preventive maintenance program for all buildings, per manufacturers’ recommendations; serve as project manager, ensuring federal, state, and local code compliance, timely completion of tasks, and satisfactory sub-contractor performance of any building construction or remodeling projects
  • Submit bids and recommendations to management for consideration
  • Act as liaison with city, county, and state, as it relates to fire, security, and occupational safety codeEnsure facilities meet government regulations and environmental, health and security standards

  • Ensure required Physical Plant Services reports are prepared and filed with the authority having jurisdiction
  • Prioritize and perform work on submitted work orders by departments
  • Work in conjunction with Purchasing/Contract Coordinator and management to schedule all departmental equipment service contracts/contacts, preventive maintenance, warranties, and scheduled repairs
  • Ensure security and emergency preparedness procedures are implemented properly
  • Handle emergencies as they arise
  • Communicate workplace safety precautions to employees
  • Maintain a system of repair parts and facilities supplies
  • Oversee plans, material lists and estimates for building projects, renovations, or refurbishments
  • Inspect buildings, equipment, and systems to identify any issues
  • Repair faulty equipment units and damaged structures
  • Perform general maintenance tasks, including electrical, carpentry, plumbing and painting
  • Repair, maintain/monitor all equipment and amenities
  • Record and document all inspections, problems, and solutions
  • Clean windows, glass doors, change light bulbs and perform other custodial work
  • Remove and properly dispose of all recyclable materials
  • Check and respond to security and safety issues
  • Maintain exterior property
  • Travel to all three building sites to inspect facilities, buildings, and grounds for routine maintenance; prioritize repairs and renovations
  • Run errands as necessary
  • Promote an environment that supports quality assurance and performance improvement by facilitating the timely identification and reporting of Opportunities for Improvement including discovered opportunities for improvement, deviations, reported complaints, and other adverse events, and foster a non-punitive Quality culture focused on continuous process improvement.

Qualifications

Work Schedule & On-Call Requirements

The following identifies the potential work schedule and on-call requirements of the job:

  • Standard work schedule: Monday-Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule with weekday coverage Monday-Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
  • Weekend on-call coverage begins Friday at 7:00 p.m. and concludes Monday at 7:00 a.m. during assigned rotation periods
  • Must be available to respond to facility-related emergencies and operational needs during scheduled on-call periods

Education and Training Required

The following identifies the minimum education and training required to perform the essential functions of the job:

  • High School Diploma, with certification in HVAC or building maintenance technology preferred, or comparable work-related experience
  • Training in mechanical and electrical systems preferred

Experience and Skills Required

The following indicates the minimum skills and experience required to perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ industrial maintenance
  • Strong manual dexterity and problem-solving skills
  • Detailed oriented
  • Experience in heating, air conditioning and refrigeration preferred
  • Familiarity with building trades, construction methods and materials, HVAC systems, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, repairs, and maintenance; ability to utilize tools needed in work environment of the position
