Responsibilities

• Travels to customers' homes and businesses.
• Safely operates a bobtail/delivery truck for propane and fuels.
• Performs DOT pre-trip/post-trip inspections and logs hours/delivery records.
• Installs tanks, regulators, and gas lines for new customers.
• Diagnoses and repairs propane equipment (furnaces, water heaters, LP appliances).
• Conducts site surveys and recommends tank placements.
• Troubleshoots problems with existing equipment.
• Performs leak checks and pressure tests; handles gas-leak procedures.
• Provides operating instructions for new equipment.
• Maintains tools, stock, and vehicle; keeps sites clean.
• Participates in after-hours on-call rotations.

Job Summary

Pico Propane and Fuels, a Meritum Energy Holdings company in Carlsbad, NM, is seeking a Service Technician with a CDL. The Service Technician is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of propane and fuel equipment, as well as the safe and efficient delivery of propane and refined fuels, with a key focus on customer satisfaction.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Travels to customers' homes and places of business
• Safely operates a bobtail or delivery truck to deliver propane and refined fuels to residential, commercial, and agricultural customers
• Performs DOT pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and maintains accurate hours-of-service and delivery records
• Prepares, stages, and installs tanks, regulators, and gas lines for new customers
• Diagnoses and repairs propane equipment such as furnaces, water heaters, and other LP appliances
• Conducts site surveys and recommends where tanks and equipment should be placed
• Troubleshoots problems with existing equipment
• Performs leak checks and pressure tests on new and existing systems, including out-of-gas and interruption-of-service procedures
• Provides customers with verbal and written operating instructions for new equipment, including how to recognize and respond to a gas leak
• Maintains tools and equipment and leaves every job site clean
• Records and maintains stock levels
• Performs routine maintenance on the work vehicle
• Participates in an on-call rotation for after-hours and emergency service calls

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities

• Experience in fuel delivery or gas equipment service and installation; experience in both is preferred
• Working knowledge of propane (LP) systems
• Willingness to learn and grow

• Proficient in using a tablet or mobile device for work orders and delivery tickets
• Customer service oriented, with strong communication skills

Education, Certification, Licenses Required

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• CDL Class A or B with Hazmat (H) and Tanker (N) endorsements required
• Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Ability to obtain the NM LP-3 propane certification within twelve (12) months of employment (if not already certified)
• Ability to obtain the NM Class 5 (service and installation) certification within twelve (12) months of employment (if not already certified)

Physical Requirements

• Position requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch for extended periods; frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; and occasionally lift and maneuver up to 100 lbs. (e.g., cylinders) using proper equipment or assistance
• Ability to regularly climb in and out of a commercial motor vehicle, multiple times per work shift
• Good hand-eye coordination; arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp; and visual acuity to operate equipment, including at night.
• Frequent sitting, reaching with hands and arms
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and dispatch, and to detect the odor of propane

Conditions Of Employment

• Position is subject to pre-hire DOT medical certification requirements and drug and/or alcohol testing, as well as a physical abilities test performed by a company provider. Hazmat endorsement requires a TSA background check
• Must pass pre-employment screening and background check

Work Environment

• Position may require working evening hours and weekends as needed
• Work is normally performed outside, where exposure to extreme heat and cold, fumes, airborne particles, and gases is common
