Job summary

SPC Mechanical's Service Project Manager oversees our commercial mechanical/plumbing special projects group, from estimating and proposal through award, planning and field execution to closeout, ensuring scope, schedule, budget and quality on every job.

The role focuses on equipment changeouts and capital improvements, coordinating between estimating, procurement, field operations, and client communications within SPC Mechanical's standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years in commercial mechanical and/or plumbing estimating and/or project management.
• Proven experience leading equipment changeout and capital improvement projects from bid through completion.
• Strong working knowledge of commercial HVAC and plumbing systems, equipment, and installation methods.
• Demonstrated ability to read and take off plans and specifications.
• Strong organizational, scheduling, and budgeting skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

SPC Mechanical's Service Project Manager leads our commercial mechanical/plumbing special projects group, with a focus on equipment changeouts and capital improvement work. This role owns the entire life of every project - from initial estimating and proposal through award, planning, and field execution to closeout - and is accountable for scope, schedule, budget, and quality on each job.

Essential Functions:

Estimating & Preconstruction

• Lead the estimating process for all special projects, including equipment changeouts, retrofits, and capital improvement work
• Perform take-offs, develop scopes of work, and solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing
• Prepare complete, accurate proposals and bids for commercial mechanical/plumbing projects
• Conduct site walks and assessments to evaluate existing conditions and develop project approach
• Coordinate with manufacturers and suppliers on equipment selection, lead times, and pricing

Project Execution & Field Oversight

• Own execution of every awarded project from kickoff through closeout
• Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and procurement logs
• Coordinate subcontractors and equipment deliveries to keep projects on schedule
• Coordinate labor with the Field Supervisor
• Work with the Field Supervisor to resolve field issues, scope changes, and coordination conflicts as they arise
• Manage submittals, change orders, and project documentation as needed
• Ensure completed work meets SPC Mechanical's standards and applicable codes

Financial & Performance Oversight

• Track job costing, labor productivity, and material costs against budget for every project
• Prepare and present project financial updates and forecasts to leadership
• Review and approve project invoicing and billing for accuracy
• Identify and manage change orders to protect project margin
• Report on estimating win rates and project profitability

Customer Experience

• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the estimating and construction process
• Communicate proactively with clients on schedule, budget, and scope status
• Resolve client concerns professionally and promptly
• Reinforce SPC Mechanical's reputation for integrity, quality, transparency, and follow-through
• Coordinate closely with the service department when special projects overlap with existing service accounts

Business Development & Marketing Support

• Support, but do not lead, SPC Mechanical's business development and marketing efforts for special projects work
• Assist in identifying equipment changeout and capital improvement opportunities with existing and prospective clients
• Participate in client meetings, walkthroughs, and proposal presentations alongside business development leadership
• Provide input on marketing materials, case studies, and proposal content based on completed project work
• Help maintain relationships with owners, property managers, engineers, and general contractors that generate project leads

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum 7 years of experience in commercial mechanical and/or plumbing estimating and/or project management
• Proven experience leading equipment changeout and capital improvement projects from bid through completion
• Strong working knowledge of commercial HVAC and plumbing systems, equipment, and installation methods
• Demonstrated ability to read and take off plans and specifications
• Strong organizational, scheduling, and budgeting skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Estimating software and project management software experience
• Comfortable representing the company in client-facing business development settings

• OSHA 30 or equivalent safety certification
