Job summary

Butler Machinery Company in Fargo, ND seeks a Service Manager to lead the Power Systems Service Department. You will oversee daily operations, coach a high-performing team, ensure exceptional customer service and drive business results through safety, efficiency and continuous improvement.

Key duties include scheduling, tracking progress, warranty administration, and KPI-driven improvements. A two-year degree or equivalent experience is preferred, along with supervisory experience or service

Qualifications

• Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Proven leadership, detail orientation and organizational abilities are essential.
• Flexibility to work varied hours as needed.
• Experience with mechanical systems related to the represented product lines is preferred.
• Internal candidates should have completed Lead Yourself training where available.
• Prior supervisory experience or service management training is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations of the Power Systems Service Department and ensure top customer service.
• Oversee service scheduling, progress tracking, warranty administration and customer updates.
• Proactively resolve service-related issues to boost customer satisfaction.
• Coach and develop service staff, including hiring, performance reviews and training.
• Monitor KPIs and implement process improvements to meet goals.
• Develop staffing plans, business strategies and service growth initiatives.
• Review estimates, work orders and service documentation for accuracy and timeliness.
• Maintain safety standards and promote Butler Machinery's mission and values.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the daily operations of the Power Systems Service Department, ensuring exceptional customer service and efficient workflow management.
• Manage service scheduling, job progress, warranty administration, and customer communication.
• Drive customer satisfaction by proactively resolving concerns and service-related issues.
• Lead, coach, and develop service department employees, including hiring, performance management, training, and career development.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement process improvements to support departmental goals and operational excellence.
• Develop business plans, staffing strategies, and service growth initiatives.
• Review estimates, quotes, work orders, and service documentation to ensure accuracy and timely completion.
• Manage manufacturer goodwill claims and customer dispute resolution while balancing customer and company interests.
• Ensure a safe, organized, and productive work environment by promoting and enforcing company safety standards.
• Champion Butler Machinery's mission, vision, and values in all aspects of the operations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Duties:

• Organizes, communicates, and delegates responsibilities and priorities to ensure the successful operation of the department
• Provides regular and timely feedback that recognizes employee performance, motivating employees and promoting self-development
• Communicates with and coaches employees on assignments, providing technical expertise as needed.
• Selects, trains and develops employees consistent with department/division goals, providing coaching on career development

Qualifications:

• Good oral and written communication skills
• Computer knowledge
• Must have good leadership, detail and organizational skills.
• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours
• Mechanical experience with the product lines we represent preferred.
• Completion of Lead Yourself for internal candidates is preferred.
• Two-year degree or equivalent experience and training preferred.
• Prior supervisory experience or Service Management Training preferred.
• Must possess a clean driving record
