Job summary

Midwest Transit Equipment, Inc. in Marshall, MI is seeking a full-time Service Manager to lead the service department, coordinate between teams, and drive customer satisfaction while boosting profitability.

You will plan daily operations, manage repairs, and ensure compliance with warranty policies and safety regulations. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in medium/heavy-duty trucks, a CDL A preferred, strong problem-solving and organizational skills, and a proven ability to meet KPIs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years technical experience in the medium/heavy duty truck industry.
  • Valid Class A CDL preferred.
  • Must understand and evaluate warranty guidelines and policies.
  • Must be a team player with strong customer commitment.
  • Experience meeting KPIs and sustaining high service standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of the service department and coordinate with other departments.
  • Ensure compliance with all vendor policies and warranty procedures.
  • Maintain high quality service repairs to minimize comebacks.
  • Monitor progress of vehicle repairs and ensure timely completion.
  • Develop and manage customer relationships to meet current and future needs.
  • Explain cost and time requirements and obtain proper authorization for repairs.
  • Keep up-to-date with warranty policies and product changes.

Midwest Transit Equipment, Inc. seeks a Full-Time Service Manager for our Marshall, MI location.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for a Service Manager to provide a vital communication link between the service department and other departments in the company. Proactively develop and manage the service department business and operations in a way that maximizes customer and employee satisfaction, as well as positively contributes to the business performance and overall company profitability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage and plan the daily operations of the service department, working with and acting on deviations.
  • Understanding and ensuring compliance with all vendor policies and warranty procedures
  • Maintaining high quality service repairs to minimize comebacks
  • Investigating the progress of vehicle repair completion by conducting periodic spot checks of all jobs throughout the day to ensure timely repairs and quality workmanship
  • Develop and manage customer relationships ensuring that customers’ needs are met, and services are developed to meet the future needs of the customer.
  • Contacting customers regarding any additions or changes to the repair of their vehicle, if required
  • Explaining cost and time requirements in detail, and getting the proper authorization before any additional repairs are made
  • Keeping abreast of all warranty policies and product changes to maintain effectiveness in this role
  • Providing on-the-job technical support for technicians as required and assisting in the development of their technical skills and abilities
  • Ensuring all repairs are documents, technicians’ comments are descriptive and precise, and that the allotted time is noted prior to submission for closing
  • Ensuring that all vehicles are road tested when required and that the repairs were completed correctly
  • Reviewing and signing off an all completed repair orders noting technician comments, technician sign off, repair completion and road test completion
  • Understanding and keeping abreast of all federal, state, and local regulations that affect service operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA, and EPA
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Attend all Safety Committee meetings
  • Under the guidance and assistance of the Operations Manager and Human Resources, discipline of Service Department employees up to and including termination of employment
  • Assist with the hiring process of Service Department employees
  • Enforce all Company policies and procedures
  • Lead and motivate the service department personnel
  • Develop the service business by following set budget and operational targets and taking measures in order to achieve set targets
  • Create and foster environment that embraces acceptance, cultivates teamwork, holds everyone accountable, and steadfastly commits to professional development
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years technical experience in the medium/heavy duty truck industry
  • Valid Class "A" CDL preferred
  • Must be able to understand, communicate, and evaluate all vendor and International Warranty guidelines, approval processes and policies
  • Must be a team player with a strong sense of commitment to the customer
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Must be flexible and adapt to change readily
  • Must have superior problem solving skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Strive for respect and facilitate teamwork within the department
  • Experience meeting Key Performance Indicators
