The City of Oberlin is seeking a Service Maintenance Worker responsible for performing diverse tasks, including construction, maintenance, and waste collection. The role requires effective communication, problem-solving skills, and a valid Ohio driver's license. An ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative and accountability while performing physical labor in varying conditions.
Service Maintenance Worker
The Service Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in three main areas: 1) construction, maintenance, and repair of roadways and utilities; 2) buildings and grounds maintenance; and 3) solid waste collection, transfer, and processing.
The worker shall operate with some independence, committed to the City’s mission, and demonstrate ethical conduct, community stewardship, initiative, and responsive service. Effective performance includes clear communication, teamwork, resource management, personal accountability, and responsibility.

Perform tasks across three categories: construction, refuse & recycling, and buildings & grounds, with some duties overlapping between categories.
Supervision is provided by the Superintendent or Crew Chief. The worker may supervise part-time or intermittent staff.
Work may involve responding to emergencies, working in severe weather, traffic hazards, and physically demanding tasks.
High school diploma or equivalent, ability to perform manual labor, follow instructions, and work safely with minimal supervision. Must meet weight restrictions for ladders and bucket trucks per OSHA standards. Valid Ohio driver’s license with endorsements required.
