Job summary

Knoxville's Community Development Corporation is seeking a dual-role Service Coordinator and Activities Specialist to support elderly residents at two affordable housing communities. The role focuses on promoting independent living, wellness, and social engagement while coordinating supportive services.

The Service Coordinator connects residents with providers and assists with benefit applications; the Activities Specialist plans a calendar of recreational, educational, and wellness activities,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Gerontology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with seniors or in affordable housing.
  • Knowledge of community services, entitlement programs, and senior support systems.
  • Experience planning and leading group activities for seniors.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and resident tracking systems.
  • Ability to travel between two properties as required.

Responsibilities

  • Service Coordinator (50%) tasks including assessing needs to maintain independent living and age in place.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local service providers (healthcare, transportation, meal programs, home care).
  • Educate residents and families on available services and support systems.
  • Coordinate delivery of supportive services and follow up to ensure service quality.
  • Maintain resident files and documentation per HUD and property management standards.
  • Assist with benefit applications (e.g., Medicaid, SNAP, energy assistance).
  • Advocate for residents with social service agencies and community organizations.
  • Collaborate with property management on issues impacting residents’ well-being.
  • Activities Specialist (50%) tasks including planning, coordinating, and leading a calendar of activities.
  • Encourage participation in group events and adapt activities for varying abilities.
  • Organize holiday celebrations, exercise classes, arts & crafts, seminars, outings, and wellness events.
  • Solicit resident feedback to continually improve programs and track participation.

  • Solicit resident feedback to continuously improve program offerings.

  • Track participation and evaluate activity success.

  • Partner with volunteers, vendors, and community organizations to expand programming.

  • Ensure all activities are inclusive, engaging, and promote mental and physical health.


Requirements

Qualifications

Preferred Skills And Competencies
