Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; or 1-3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One year certificate from college or technical school; or 3-6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; present information one-on-one or in small groups.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and manuals; write routine reports; speak before groups of customers or employees.
• Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s; perform operations with money and units of measure.

Responsibilities

• Greets customers at the cashier window in a pleasant and professional manner.
• Receives cash, checks and credit card payments; records amounts received.
• Makes change and issues receipts to customers.
• Provides refunds or credit memorandums as directed by managers.
• Reconciles cash drawer daily and keeps work area neat and clean.
• Assists department managers with knowledge of products, services, and price changes.
• Answers customer questions about services or products; refers to appropriate personnel as needed.
• Handles customer complaints with integrity and refers to the right individuals for resolution.
• Provides clerical assistance to departments as needed; backup to switchboard operator.
