The City of Garland is seeking a full-time employee for customer service and custodial tasks to maintain community centers. Duties include preparing facilities for events, minor repairs, and assisting the public with information about programs. Candidates must have a high school diploma and up to one year of relevant experience.
Summary
Responsible for performing semi-skilled customer service and custodial work to properly set up for events and to maintain the City-owned community centers and associated buildings in a clean and orderly condition. This is a full time role, so it is up to 40 hours.
Pay Range: $14.69 - $18.14 (Depending on experience and qualifications)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare building for daily operations.
Maintain exterior of buildings, sidewalks and suitability of bathrooms for public use.
Assist the public as required regarding registration, special events, etc.
Provide information regarding programs, schedules and other related information.
Provide minor and routine repairs and maintenance to facility.
Report repairs to a supervisor or manager.
Provide on-site facility supervision in absence of staff.
May transport heavy boxes or items using a hand truck.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
Up to 1 year experience in custodial and/or customer service field
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications
Education/ Experience:
1-2 year experience cleaning and maintaining a large facility
Experience and training with basic cleaning methods and chemicals
Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class C with Passenger Endorsement preferred, not required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
General knowledge of proper event set-up and operation of light and sound systems
General knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in maintenance, minor repairs, usage of chemicals and cleaning solutions on floors and buildings
Skill in utilizing tools necessary for technical and custodial work
Ability to understand and follow instructions
Ability to operate equipment and disperse chemicals safely
Ability to work without continuous supervision
Licenses and Certifications
Valid Class C Texas driver's license
City of Garland Defensive Driving Certification within 6 months of hire
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work. Incumbent is exposed to hazardous conditions while using cleansing chemicals. Physical tasks will include working with tools, lifting, squatting, climbing, bending, stooping, walking, and carrying supplies, as needed, to accomplish the tasks of the activity on a daily basis.
