Repair Technician – Aviation Safety Equipment
Location: Van Nuys, CA
Pay Range: $18.00 – $30.00 per hour (commensurate with experience and qualifications)
Employment Type: Full-Time | Entry-Level | Hands-On Work Environment

About CAPS Aviation
CAPS Aviation is a 100% women-owned FAA Certified Part 145 Repair Station. We specialize in the inspection, overhaul, and repair of critical aviation safety equipment including life rafts, life vests, and survival kits. With locations in Los Angeles and Austin, CAPS supports aviation professionals nationwide with high standards of quality, compliance, and customer service.
Responsibilities
You will rotate through different stages of our repair and overhaul process:
- Intake & Documentation: Receiving, opening, and verifying equipment
- Emergency Locator Testing: Battery replacement and ELT functionality testing
- Inflation System Checks: Air retention and leak testing
- Component Repairs: Light replacements and service bulletin implementation
- Survival Kit Updates: Replacement of expired components
- Assembly & Packing: Rebuilding pressurized bottles, folding rafts, and prepping equipment
- Final Quality Control: Vacuum sealing and inspection
- Life Vests & First Aid Kits: Complete inspection and servicing
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Mechanical aptitude or relevant experience (e.g., automotive, electronics, fabrication)
- Familiarity with hand and power tools
- Attention to detail and ability to follow precise procedures
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Basic math and measurement skills
- Ability to work with urgency in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to work overtime when needed
- Ability to lift/move items up to 50 lbs
FAA & DOT Compliance
This is a
safety-sensitive position governed by the
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the
Department of Transportation (DOT). As such, all candidates must:
- Be authorized to work in the United States
- Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening
- Be subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations
