Job Description: Field Service Technician

If so, you might be a perfect fit for the role of Field Service Technician at John Zink Hamworthy, supporting the vapor group in the refining and petrochemical industries.

John Zink, a Koch Engineered Solutions company, provides innovative, custom-engineered solutions. Our equipment group supplies components for various markets, focusing on refining and petrochemicals. As a Field Service Technician, you will support our customers at their sites across the country with commissioning, maintenance, and other services.

Typical Daily Responsibilities:

• Travel from your home office to job sites to perform checkout, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning/startup of electrical and mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, VFDs, valves, actuators, transmitters, combustion and emission monitoring equipment, recorders, and PLCs.
• Commission, troubleshoot, and modify PLCs (e.g., Allen Bradley, Siemens), PID controllers, VFDs, and HMIs.
• Be on call to provide customer service as needed.
• Modify technical documents and drawings to reflect final field changes during commissioning.
• Travel extensively within your region and potentially nationwide, up to 75%.

Minimum Requirements:

• Experience programming, calibrating, and configuring 4-20 MA loop devices.
• Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting PLCs, especially Allen Bradley and GE brands.
• Understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Ability to read P&ID’s, fabrication drawings, and electrical schematics.
• Willingness to travel over 75% of the time.
• Obtain a TWIC card within six weeks of employment.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle.

Physical Requirements:

• Lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and 25 lbs routinely; capable of bending, stooping, crawling, and maneuvering around equipment.
• Good hearing, color vision, and close and distant visual acuity.
• Work outdoors and endure long workdays occasionally.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Control Logix, RS Linx, GE Rx3i PLCs, or similar.
• Two-year technical degree or military experience with boilers.
• Field experience in petrochemical, power, renewable energy, pulp & paper, or food processing industries.
• Experience with Modicon, Siemens PLCs, and an electrical journeyman license.
• Knowledge of industrial safety standards, OSHA, NFPA 70E.
• Experience with motors, VFDs, valves, actuators, transmitters, and PLC equipment.
