The Friendly Toast in Portland, ME, is hiring servers to join its unique all-day brunch and bar concept. You’ll be part of a fast-paced, people-first team that values safety, growth, and a welcoming, come-as-you-are culture.

As a server you’ll handle multiple tables, learn the menu and beverage details, ring orders, process payments, and ensure guest satisfaction while upholding standards.

Flexible schedules, weekend and holiday shifts, and opportunities for advancement are available.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a server is required.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Reliable and punctual.

Responsibilities

• Serve three to four tables as directed by management.
• Have complete knowledge of The Friendly Toast’s food and beverage preparation.
• Sell alcohol and food items where appropriate.
• Able to ring orders on a computer and process payments.
• Able to interact with guests in a friendly, fast manner.
• Maintain cleanliness and smooth operation of the restaurant.
• Observe safety and responsible service of alcohol; intervene when necessary.
• Provide exceptional guest service to exceed expectations.

Major Responsibilities

• Must be able to pass Responsible Service of Alcohol Test with a score of 90% or better.
• Serve three to four tables, as determined by management.
• Have complete knowledge of The Friendly Toast’s food and beverage preparation.
• Ability to sell alcohol and food items.
• Able to use a computer to ring orders on a check.
• Able to interact with guests in a friendly/fast manner.
• Able to accept different types of payment and make change.
• Maintain specific side-work and ensure the total cleanliness and smooth operation of the restaurant.
• Ability to clear and reset tables.
• If consuming alcoholic beverages, observe guest’s behavior, count number of drinks served, and if the server feels they should not drive, offer a taxi. Do not hesitate to ask a manager to intervene.
• All guests must be treated in a manner to ensure their complete satisfaction. Always strive to exceed guests’ expectations.
• Report to work in a neat and clean uniform. Well-groomed hair and personal hygiene are essential.

Working Conditions

• Position requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, twisting, lifting products and supplies weighing 45 pounds, and repetitive hand and wrist motion.
• Work with hot, cold, and hazardous equipment as well as operating phones and computers.
